  • Parallel agent execution. Enables launching and managing over 20 different terminal-based agents simultaneously (such as Claude Code, Qwen Code, Amp, Codex, Cursor). Each agent works independently in its own isolated copy of the codebase using Git worktrees, preventing conflicts between different tasks.
  • Issue tracking system integration. Connects directly with platforms like Linear, GitHub, Jira, or GitLab. It can pass the full context of a ticket directly to an agent, allowing work to begin without manual copying and pasting of information.
  • SSH connection to remote servers. Connects to remote machines via SSH/SFTP. This allows agents to run and work on repositories located on external servers while maintaining the same parallelization and isolation workflow as the local environment.
  • Kanban-style status view. Organizes and displays running agents on a board. Provides a clear overview of which tasks are completed, in progress, and which agents require user interaction or input.
  • Best-of-N comparison. Makes it possible to assign the same task to multiple different agents (or multiple instances of the same model). The developer can then compare the results and select the most optimal solution.
  • Integrated file editor. Includes a text editor for modifying files directly within the application. This facilitates quick reviews and changes without switching tools.
  • Diff viewer. Features a built-in viewer to examine changes proposed by agents. From the same interface, changes can be committed and pushed to the repository.
  • CLI auto-detection. Automatically detects terminal-based agents installed on the user's system. This eliminates the need for manual setup or initial checklists.
  • Connection to MCP servers. Can connect to Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers. This extends agent capabilities with external tools without requiring additional glue code.
  • Secure SSH credential management. For remote connections, it uses the operating system's keychain to securely store SSH keys and authentication credentials.

Development of Emdash began in 2024. It is an open-source application created by a team based in San Francisco, backed by the Y Combinator accelerator. The application is primarily written in TypeScript and uses React for its user interface. Its main focus is creating an Agentic Development Environment (ADE) that enables developers to efficiently orchestrate multiple AI agents in an isolated manner.
