  • Arrow drawing. Enables drawing arrows with configurable thickness and maximum length. Adjustments to these options apply immediately to the tool during use.
  • Rectangle drawing. Inserts rectangular annotations onto the screen. Border thickness is adjustable via the toolbox controls.
  • Circle drawing. Inserts circular annotations onto the screen. Border thickness is adjustable via the toolbox controls.
  • Laser pointer. Activates a laser pointer cursor for pointing at screen elements during presentations without leaving permanent marks.
  • Highlighter. Activates a semi-transparent highlighting tool for emphasizing specific text or screen areas.
  • Focus zoom rectangle. Activates a focus rectangle that magnifies the area under the cursor, enabling precise viewing of details.
  • Coordinate snapping. Annotation tools can snap to the coordinates of other drawn shapes, facilitating precise alignment of elements.
  • Tool entrance and exit animation. Annotation tools feature configurable entrance and exit animations to provide clear visual transitions.
  • Customizable pen colors and thickness. Annotation colors and stroke thickness are fully customizable through the toolbox interface.
  • Copy annotated image to clipboard. Upon completing an annotation, the entire screen with all marks can be copied directly to the system clipboard.
  • Copy selected region to clipboard. Allows selection of a specific screen region containing annotations for copying to the clipboard, rather than the full screen.
  • Mini toolbox bar. A mini toolbar at the bottom of the toolbox window provides access to quick settings and the detailed configuration window.
  • Detailed settings window. Provides a settings window with additional configuration options. Hovering over each option displays an explanatory tooltip.
  • System tray activation. The application resides in the system notification area and can be activated by clicking its tray icon.
  • Hotkey activation. Annotation mode can be invoked using a configurable hotkey (default is Ctrl+1). Pressing the same hotkey or the Esc key exits annotation mode.
  • Tool selection via keyboard. While in annotation mode, each tool has an associated hotkey (A for Arrow, R for Rectangle, etc.), displayed when hovering over the corresponding icon.
  • Portable application. Markwright operates as a portable application without requiring an installer. Usage consists of downloading, unzipping, and executing the mw.exe file.
  • WinGet installation. Installation via the WinGet package manager is supported by executing winget install aloneguid.markwright in PowerShell.

Development of Markwright was initiated by a software engineer. The application was created to address the need for specific functionality not present in other annotation tools, such as custom pen colors and additional tools. By early 2026, the developer had fully transitioned to using Markwright for all personal requirements and subsequently decided to release it publicly.
