  • Real-time tracking. Traccar displays the current position of connected devices on a map. Location updates depend on the GPS device configuration. Data is transmitted using standard or manufacturer-specific protocols.
  • Route history. The system stores all trajectories traveled by the devices. Users can review past routes by filtering by date and time. The data includes speed, direction, and stops during the journey.
  • Geofences. Allows creating virtual areas on the map to receive notifications when a device enters or leaves the defined zone. Geofences can be circular or polygonal with multiple vertices.
  • Custom alerts. Notification configuration based on specific events such as speeding, device disconnection, or entry into restricted zones. Alerts are sent by email or through integrations with other systems.
  • Detailed reports. Generation of documents with usage statistics, kilometers traveled, activity times, and fuel consumption. Reports are exported in PDF, Excel, or CSV formats.
  • Device compatibility. Support for over 200 GPS models from different brands. Communication is established through protocols such as GT06, TK103, or OsmAnd. It also works with smartphones via dedicated mobile applications.
  • Fleet monitoring. Tools for managing multiple vehicles simultaneously. Includes route comparison, distance calculation between units, and mechanical status supervision through connected sensors.
  • Map integration. Data visualization on different map providers such as Google Maps, OpenStreetMap, or Here. Support for additional layers like real-time traffic or satellite imagery.
  • Open API. Programming interface to connect Traccar with other enterprise systems. Allows automating processes and developing custom functionalities according to specific needs.
  • Secure authentication. Access control through user roles with configurable permissions. Administrators can limit the visibility of devices and functions for different operator groups.
  • Sensor support. Reception of additional data such as temperature, pressure, or fuel level from IoT devices. Values are recorded along with location for later analysis.
  • Cross-platform system. Works on Windows, Linux, or macOS servers. The web interface is responsive and adapts to different screen sizes. No additional software installation is required on workstations.

Traccar was initially developed in 2012 by Anton Tananaev. The project started as a basic GPS tracking solution and evolved into a complete platform. The code is written primarily in Java for the backend and JavaScript for the web interface. The first public version was released in 2013 under the Apache 2.0 license. Active development continues with regular updates that add support for new devices and features.
