The development of VB-Audio Matrix began in France, created by Vincent Burel. The application is distributed under a Donationware license, being functionally complete without requiring mandatory payment. The code is written in C++ for the audio engine and uses Windows driver technologies for the virtual components. The software maintains compatibility with Windows from XP SP2 to Windows 11, in both 32 and 64-bit versions, without requiring an internet connection or collecting user data.
