  • Extensive compatibility. The application recognizes file formats and data structures from over 120 dash cam models from different manufacturers. Support includes brands such as BlackVue, Viofo, Thinkware, Garmin, Nextbase, and others. The program performs automatic analysis of metadata embedded in the files.
  • Synchronized multi-camera playback. Simultaneous viewing of video streams from up to four cameras installed in a vehicle. The videos play back synchronously in time, making it easy to compare front, rear, and interior viewing angles at a single moment.
  • Data overlay on video (HUD). Function to embed telemetric information directly onto the video image. The displayed data includes speed, GPS coordinates, date, time, altitude, and direction of travel. The user configures the visible elements and their on-screen position.
  • Interactive map with route. Displays the route traveled by the vehicle on a base map from Google Maps, OpenStreetMap, or topographic maps. The vehicle's position on the map updates in real-time with video playback. Allows zooming and changing the map type.
  • Temporal sensor graphs. Graphical representation of multiple data series over time in separate windows. Speed, G-force from the impact sensor, altitude, GPS accuracy (HDOP), and distance traveled are plotted. The graphs are linked to the video timeline.
  • Data export and captures. Ability to extract GPS data to standard file formats such as GPX or KML for use in other systems. Allows capturing video frames and map images with overlaid data. Generates trip reports with statistics.
  • Impact event analysis (G-Sensor). Automatic detection and marking of points on the timeline where the camera's sensor registered sudden deceleration or impact. The user can quickly review these events and the associated videos for evaluation.
  • Time zone and DST correction. Tools to adjust the timestamp of videos and metadata. This is necessary when the camera is set to an incorrect time zone or does not account for daylight saving time changes, ensuring the accuracy of records.
  • Presentation mode and clip creation. Function to generate video compositions with overlaid data for presentation or use as evidence. Allows trimming specific sections from original video files and merging them into a new file with the HUD data included.
  • Support for action cameras and other devices. In addition to dedicated dash cams, the software can process files from certain action cameras and GPS devices that record video and positional data. The application attempts to extract and synchronize available data.
  • Unified timeline and file navigation. Interface that sequentially groups all video files from a recording session into a single continuous timeline. The user navigates seamlessly between the different recorded fragments, which play back as a single movie.
  • Unit and format configuration. Customization of the displayed units of measurement for speed (km/h, mph), distance (km, miles), temperature, and elevation. Configuration of date and time format according to the user's regional conventions.

Development of Dashcam Viewer began in 2012. The program originated as a tool for viewing files from the earliest dash cams that recorded video alongside GPS data in separate files. The application was initially written for the macOS platform using the Objective-C and Cocoa programming languages. Subsequently, a version was developed for the Windows operating system, expanding the user base. The project is commercial, with a paid per-user license model.
