Geosetter

Geosetter is a desktop application for managing GPS coordinates in image files. The program synchronizes GPS track logs with photographs using timestamps, writing geolocation data directly into the EXIF metadata. • Batch processing. Performs georeferencing and metadata editing operations on extensive sets of files. Applies uniform settings to entire folders of images, keeping a log of changes and allowing modification reversal.
• RAW camera compatibility. Reads and modifies metadata in RAW formats from various manufacturers. Processes files like CR2 (Canon), NEF (Nikon), ARW (Sony), and others, preserving the integrity of the original image data while modifying only the metadata sections.
• Reverse location lookup. Assigns place names to coordinates using geocoding services. Connects to geographic databases to obtain street names, cities, and points of interest from the coordinates, inserting this information into the metadata.
• Backup of original files. Automatically creates backup copies before making modifications. Preserves the original files in a separate structure, providing recovery options in case of unwanted changes or accidental data corruption.

Development of Geosetter began in 2006 by Friedemann Schmidt, a German programmer specializing in geolocation applications. The first public version was released in 2007, initially focused on basic synchronization between GPX tracks and digital photographs. The code is written in Delphi, using custom mapping components for cartographic visualization. The project maintains regular updates with extended support for new camera models and file formats. The interface is localized into multiple languages including Spanish, English, German, and French.
