Directory selection with recursive scanning. Enables the user to choose one or more folders containing images. When recursive option is activated, the program examines all subdirectories within the selected paths, ensuring no file remains excluded from the batch tagging process.
Configurable metadata fields with individual selection. The interface displays a list of available fields including Artist, Copyright, Credit, Source, Creator Email, Creator Website, Usage Terms, Location, City, State, Country, GPS Coordinates, Caption, Headline, and Keywords. The operator marks only the fields intended for modification, preventing unintended alterations to other data.
Change preview before application. Prior to writing any metadata, the system executes a preview process that scans candidate files, reads existing metadata through ExifTool, compares current values against new values according to the selected write mode, and generates a per-file change set. Only files that will actually receive modifications are displayed.
Complete preset management. Selected field values can be saved to a JSON file within the data/presets.json directory. The user can save new presets, load previous configurations, update an existing preset, or delete it. Only fields containing values and marked for application are stored.
Write modes: overwrite, write if empty, and keyword appending. In overwrite mode, the new value replaces the existing one. In write-if-empty mode, the program does not modify fields that already contain information. For keywords, the non-duplicate append option incorporates new terms without repeating existing ones.
Differentiated handling for RAW and standard formats. Implements format-specific strategies: for JPEG and TIFF uses embedded writing; for RAW formats such as CR2, NEF, ARW, DNG, ORF, and RAF, applies sidecar-aware methods, preserving the digital negative integrity while managing metadata.
Extensive file format support. Compatible with RAW (.cr2, .nef, .arw, .dng, .orf, .raf) and standard images (.jpg, .jpeg, .tif, .tiff, .png). PNG writing capability depends on ExifTool features and existing metadata blocks within each file.
Centralized field registry architecture. Utilizes a registry in app/metadata_fields.py that separates user interface fields from raw metadata tags. UI controls bind to normalized internal keys, and mapping to Exif, IPTC, and XMP tag targets is centralized in field definitions and app/metadata_mapper.py, facilitating future extensions.
Shared change data model between preview and apply functions. The change set generated during preview is identical to that used by the apply function, ensuring consistency and allowing the user to see exactly which modifications will be written before execution.
General settings persistence in JSON file. Preferences such as the last selected preset, recently used directories, recursive option state, default write mode, RAW sidecar preference, and window geometry are saved in data/settings.json, maintaining configuration across sessions.
Native ExifTool integration without external installation. The application bundles ExifTool within the distribution, along with necessary files (_internal, exiftool.exe, exiftool_files, data). The user is not required to install additional tools for metadata processing.
Accurate changed fields count in preview. The number displayed as "Changed Fields" reflects exclusively those fields whose value would actually change on the file. If a field is marked but its current value already matches the entered value, it is not counted as a change, even in overwrite mode.
