  • General System Cleanup. Performs a thorough system analysis to locate application and system caches, log files, Trash contents, and other temporary or non-essential items. The scan is organized into categories, allowing the user to review and select specific items for removal. The process shows an estimate of the total space that will be freed after deletion.
  • Application Uninstaller. Removes applications and all associated files such as preferences, caches, and support files left behind on the system. This feature prevents the accumulation of residue after manual uninstallation. It can also search for and remove leftovers from previously uninstalled applications.
  • Universal Binary Reduction. Removes unnecessary processor architectures (for example, Intel code on Macs with Apple Silicon, or vice versa) from universal application packages. This reduces the size of applications. Modifying digitally signed applications may affect their integrity and functionality.
  • Language Package Removal. Locates and removes unused language support files from installed applications. This frees up disk space, especially useful for large applications that include support for dozens of languages.
  • Web Browser Cleanup. Clears browsing data such as histories, cookies, caches, and saved form data from browsers like Safari, Chrome, and Firefox. The action can be customized by data type and specific browser.
  • Duplicate File Finder. Scans the file system for identical files based on their name and content. It presents the results for manual review, allowing the removal of redundant copies to free up space.
  • Large File Search. Analyzes the hard drive and lists the largest files, making it easy to identify items that consume disproportionate space, such as videos, backup files, or forgotten downloads.
  • Secure File Deletion. Overwrites deleted files with random data following standard protocols, making recovery with specialized software impossible. This function applies to files deleted from within the application itself.
  • System Log Cleanup. Finds and removes log files (.log) generated by the operating system and applications. These files can grow over time and contain diagnostic information generally unnecessary for the standard user.
  • Extension Manager. Displays and allows the removal of extensions installed in web browsers and other system components. It provides a centralized view of these items, which are often difficult to manage from native interfaces.
  • Email File Cleanup. Scans and removes temporary attachments and caches generated by email applications like Mail. These files accumulate with daily use of the email client.
  • Temporary File Removal. Locates and deletes temporary files created by various applications during their installation or normal operation. These files are designed to be temporary, but sometimes are not removed automatically.
  • User Preference Removal. Searches for preference files (.plist) of applications that are no longer installed on the system. Removing them helps keep the user's preferences directory tidy.
  • Image Thumbnail Cleanup. Deletes thumbnail caches generated by the system and applications like Preview or Adobe Creative Suite. The regeneration of these thumbnails occurs automatically when they are needed again.
  • Customizable Cleaning Profiles. Allows the creation and use of custom profiles that define exactly which categories and system locations should be analyzed. The user can switch between a quick scan, a full scan, or their own saved profiles.

MacCleanse was developed by KoinGO Software. Its development began in the year 2006. The program was originally created to address the need for a comprehensive maintenance tool for Mac OS X users.
