  • ROC curve analysis. MedCalc is reference software for ROC curve analysis. This module calculates the Area Under the Curve (AUC) with confidence interval, generates lists of sensitivity and specificity for all possible thresholds, allows comparison of up to 6 different curves, and includes sample size calculation. The resulting graphs can include confidence limits.
  • Method comparison. Evaluates agreement between two measurement methods using Bland-Altman plots, Passing-Bablok regression, and Deming regression. These procedures are fundamental in validation studies of clinical or laboratory instruments.
  • Reference intervals. Calculates reference intervals, including age-related intervals. It uses statistical methods to establish the normal ranges of a parameter in a defined population.
  • Survival analysis. Performs survival analysis using the Kaplan-Meier method and Cox proportional hazards regression. These tools analyze time-to-event data, common in oncology studies or long-term follow-ups.
  • Meta-analysis. Combines results from multiple independent scientific studies. The module facilitates the quantitative synthesis of data to obtain an overall estimate of the effect of an intervention or association.
  • Data manager. Includes an integrated spreadsheet with a capacity of 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns. It handles missing data, allows excluding outliers, imports files from Excel, SPSS, DBase, and plain text, and selects subgroups for analysis.
  • Graph generation. Creates a wide variety of graphical representations. Graphs can be saved in SVG, PNG, JPG, high-resolution TIF formats, or as PowerPoint slides (*.pptx). It is possible to add text boxes, lines, and arrows.
  • Statistical tests. The collection covers more than 220 tests and procedures. It includes descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, linear and logistic regression, correlation analysis, non-parametric tests, and sample size calculations.
  • Documentation and help. Provides a complete manual in HTML format available on the website. Context-sensitive help is available within the program and in dialog boxes.
  • Updates and languages. Software updates are free for licensed users. The interface is available in English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.
  • Compatibility and licenses. It is compatible with recent versions of Windows for desktop. License options include a perpetual license for one user, individual subscription, site license, and network license for concurrent use.

The MedCalc software was originally created by Frank Schoonjans. Its development began several decades ago, with a continuous focus on the application of statistics in the medical and biological field. The program is written in the C++ programming language. Over the years, it has incorporated specialized statistical procedures requested by researchers, establishing itself as a tool used internationally in academic institutions and hospitals.
