  • Graphical interface. Veusz provides a window- and menu-based interface for building graphs. Elements are added through configurable dialogs, making it easy to edit properties such as colors, fonts, and scales.
  • Data import. The program can read CSV, TXT, FITS, and binary files. Data is organized into internal tables, allowing it to be manipulated before being plotted.
  • Graph types. Includes functions for creating scatter plots, bar charts, histograms, contour plots, and images. Each type has its own specific configuration options.
  • Customizable axes. Lets you define linear, logarithmic, and reciprocal scales. Axes can have titles, ticks, and labels with adjustable position and format.
  • Annotations. You can add text, arrows, legends, and geometric shapes to graphs. Text supports LaTeX-style markup for equations and mathematical symbols.
  • Multiple plot layers. Graphs can contain several overlaid datasets. Each plot widget has independent display properties.
  • Scripting. Veusz includes a Python API for automating graph generation. Scripts can create, modify, and export visualizations without manual intervention.
  • Export. Results are saved in vector formats (PDF, EPS, SVG) or image formats (PNG, JPEG). Resolution and dimensions are configurable.
  • Templates. Graph layouts can be saved as templates for reuse. Templates store styles and axis settings.
  • Mathematical operations. The program performs statistical calculations such as means, standard deviations, and curve fitting. Results are integrated directly into the graphs.
  • Cross-platform compatibility. Veusz runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS. Installation is available through native packages or from source code.

Veusz was created in 2004 by Jeremy Sanders. Initial development was done in Python using graphical libraries such as Qt for the interface. Sanders continues to maintain the project with contributions from other programmers. The choice of Python allows extension through additional modules and integration with scientific tools.
