  • Streaming recording. PlayOn Home's main function is capturing video from streaming services. The program records the content as it plays, allowing movies, series, and other videos to be stored on the computer's hard drive for offline viewing.
  • DLNA media server. It acts as a server that streams recorded content and local media files to any DLNA-compatible device on the same home network, including smart TVs, video game consoles, and media players.
  • AdSkip (commercial detection). During playback of recordings, the application automatically detects commercial breaks and skips them, providing uninterrupted viewing of the main content.
  • Recording schedule (Off-Peak Recording). It allows you to set the schedule for when recordings will take place. This feature is designed to take advantage of times with lower load on the home network or to record recurring broadcasts, such as series with new episodes each week.
  • Remote playback and Casting. It enables sending content from the computer where PlayOn Home is installed to devices like Chromecast, Google TV, Fire TV Stick, and Roku, to watch recorded material on televisions without the need for cables.
  • Automatic series subscriptions. Users can subscribe to specific series within the PlayOn interface. When a new episode is available on the source platform, the program detects it and proceeds to record it automatically without manual intervention.
  • Conversion to MP4. All recorded content is stored in standard MP4 format. This ensures compatibility with a wide range of devices and media players, in addition to allowing editing or archiving of the material without depending on the original streaming service.
  • Unified media library. The application organizes all recorded content and local files into a single library. The interface displays the material by series, movies, or individual recordings, making it easy to search and access content.
  • Multi-platform source support. It integrates access and recording from multiple streaming services simultaneously, including platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max, Disney+, YouTube, and ESPN, among others.
  • Viewing on video game consoles. Thanks to its server function, PlayOn Home content can be played directly on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii, and Wii U consoles, using these devices as playback clients on the television.
  • Support for mobile devices. Recorded files and the media library are accessible for playback on iPhone, iPad, Android devices, BlackBerry 10, and Kindle Fire, either through the home network or by transferring the MP4 files.
  • Status notifications. The system sends internal notifications about the progress of recordings, the completion of scheduled tasks, and the availability of new episodes for subscribed series, keeping the user informed of the application's activity.

PlayOn Home is developed by the company MediaMall Technologies, based in the United States. The first version of the program was released in 2007, initially conceived as a solution for viewing streaming content on televisions via video game consoles. The software is primarily written in the C# language and uses Microsoft's .NET framework to operate on the Windows operating system. Over the years, development has focused on expanding compatibility with new streaming services and playback devices, as well as implementing recording and automation functions.
