Non-intrusive interface. The window title bar remains hidden by default. It appears only when the mouse cursor moves to the top of the workspace. This design maximizes the space available for text and reduces the visual load of the application environment.
Slidable sidebar. A sliding gesture reveals a sidebar. In this area, the user links their document libraries and accesses text files. Navigation between folders and files is done from this panel, which can be hidden again to reclaim the writing space.
Text statistics. Displays real-time metrics for the active document. Includes a total character count, word count, and an estimated reading time calculation. This data is presented discreetly to inform without interrupting the workflow.
MultiMarkdown support. Implements MultiMarkdown syntax for text formatting. Allows the insertion of headers, quotes, ordered and unordered lists, links, images, italic and bold text, footnotes, citations, glossaries, and acronyms. Formatted documents can be exported to HTML for publication or distribution.
Visual focus mode. Dims the color of all text except the sentence or paragraph where the cursor is located. This highlighting technique reduces visual distraction and directs the writer's attention to the section they are currently developing.
Typewriter scrolling. The text area scrolls automatically when a new line is reached. Maintains the writing position in an optimal zone of the screen, eliminating the need for continuous manual adjustments when drafting extensive content.
Sound mode. Emits mechanical keystroke sounds with each key press. Recreates the auditory experience of a traditional typewriter. This acoustic feedback can be adjusted in volume or turned off according to user preferences.
No-deletion mode. Restricts the ability to delete or replace text. When activated, it prevents editing what has already been written, forcing a continuous forward writing flow. It is aimed at writers who tend to over-edit during the initial creation phase.
Full screen. Expands the application to occupy the entire system screen. Hides the menu bar, the dock, and any other running applications. Creates a space for total immersion where the document is the only visible element.
Visual customization. Offers three different editor widths, four font sizes, and four predefined color themes: light, dark, sepia, and amber. Additionally, it includes a theme editor to create custom color schemes by defining RGB values for each interface element.
Flexible printing. Allows printing the current document or complete directory hierarchies. When selecting a folder, it generates a print document that includes all text files contained within it and its subfolders, maintaining the directory structure.
Library organization. Manages document collections by grouping them into libraries. Each library is a folder in the file system that can be linked from the application. This structure facilitates the separation of projects or topics while maintaining quick access from the sidebar.
External synchronization. Libraries are stored as standard folders on the system. This allows them to be synchronized with cloud services like Dropbox, iCloud Drive, or Nextcloud using the native clients of those services. Changes to files are reflected across all synchronized instances.

The development of uFocus began in 2018. The program was created by Desairem, an entity focused on software development. The application is written in Objective-C and uses the Cocoa framework for macOS, which provides native integration with the operating system. The project's goal was to build a writing tool that prioritized concentration over complex functionalities.
