Ariv

Ariv — Free Download. Note-taking app with no folders or tags
Ariv is a note-taking application with a radical approach: it eliminates the need to organize files. The software automatically sorts notes based on usage (inbox, active, idle) and generates tags automatically. It is designed for users seeking an alternative to systems like Obsidian but without manual folder management.

  • Global hotkey quick capture. A floating window opens with a keyboard shortcut from anywhere in the system. The user can write a new note, append text to an existing one, or save a thought without interrupting workflow. The window disappears immediately after saving.
  • Automatic note lifecycle. Notes move between three states without user intervention: "Inbox" (recent captures), "Active" (recently edited notes), and "Idle" (old and completed notes). The state is determined by edit and access frequency.
  • Auto-tagging. The software analyzes content, headings, and text patterns to suggest tags. The process runs locally using heuristics, without sending data to external servers. Tags emerge from the user's own words.
  • Automatic daily notes. A new dated note is created each day with predefined sections for tasks. Tags are added automatically as the user writes. The daily note is accessible with one click from the main dashboard.
  • Integrated task management. Checklists written in any note are automatically detected by the system. All pending tasks are displayed in a centralized panel where they can be checked off without opening the original note.
  • "Ask Brain" semantic search. The user can query their knowledge base in natural language. The function finds related notes and connections between ideas using locally stored content. Requires an API key from an AI provider for activation.
  • Wikilinks and graph view. Supports linking between notes using the [[wikilinks]] format. Includes an interactive graph view visualizing connections between files. Both features are compatible with Obsidian vaults.
  • Local storage and Markdown format. All notes are saved as plain text Markdown files (.md) in a user-designated folder. The application does not use proprietary formats or closed databases.
  • Full-text search. The system indexes note content using SQLite with full-text search. It is optimized to work with vaults of over 5,000 files without performance degradation.
  • Obsidian vault compatibility. Can directly read any folder containing Obsidian Markdown files. Respects existing folder structure, tags, and links without requiring migration or data conversion.

The application has been under active development since 2024 by a small team led by a founder known as F in the official documentation. The project originated as an internal solution after years of trying complex organizational systems. Development focuses on creating a tool that requires no maintenance from the user.
