  • Interactive calendar. The app displays a monthly calendar when clicking on the menu bar. It includes indicators for days with scheduled events. Navigation between months and years is done with trackpad gestures or keyboard shortcuts.

  • Zoom integration. Detects Zoom meeting links in calendar event details. Displays a button to join the meeting directly from the Dato menu.
  • Google Calendar event opening. For events originating from Google Calendar, provides a link that opens the event in the Google Calendar web interface. Facilitates quick editing.
  • Custom text color. Allows changing the color of the date and time text in the menu bar. The adjustment is independent of the general system preferences.

The Dato application was created by independent developer Sindre Sorhus. Development began in 2019. The program is written primarily in the Swift programming language, using native macOS frameworks for the user interface and system integration.
