Directory Report is a file management utility designed to scan internal and external storage devices, locate duplicate files, perform batch renaming operations, identify large files and folders, and generate printed directory listings. During the process, it collects information such as names, extensions, sizes, creation and modification dates, attributes, and full file paths. Results are displayed in a table with sorting and filtering options, allowing the user to examine storage structures with precision.
• Duplicate file detection. The duplicate search module compares files by content, name, size, or date to identify exact matches. Duplicates can be grouped into sets, and multiple files can be selected for direct deletion or moved to an alternate location. • Large file management. Directory Report sorts files by descending size and displays those occupying the most space within each analyzed drive or folder. This function facilitates identification of dispensable items such as temporary files, debug dumps, or oversized media content, enabling the user to make informed decisions regarding deletion or archiving.

The program incorporates a batch renaming system that applies custom rules: adding prefixes or suffixes, replacing characters, sequencing numbers, changing extensions, or utilizing file metadata. For music collections, renaming can be based on ID3 tags (artist, album, title, track), transforming non-descriptive names into an organized and consistent nomenclature.
• Directory listing printing and export. Detailed folder and file reports can be generated in table, tree, or list format. Output supports direct printing, saving to text files, CSV, or HTML. • Directory comparison. The comparison function analyzes two folders and displays differences in names, sizes, dates, and content. Files present in only one location, newer versions, or items with size discrepancies are highlighted. • Advanced attribute and metadata filtering. Filters applied during analysis restrict results based on extensions, size ranges, modification dates, system attributes (hidden, read-only), or text contained in the filename. For media files, filters by duration, resolution, codec, or EXIF metadata are supported, allowing precise segmentation of large data volumes.
• Batch modification of dates and ownership. Directory Report permits adjustment of timestamps (creation date, modification date, and last access) for one or multiple files simultaneously. Additionally, ownership and security permissions on NTFS systems can be modified, which is relevant for server administration, data migrations, and correcting attributes after restorations.
• Hierarchical folder size visualization. The tool displays the size occupied by each folder including nested content, presenting data in descending order. This hierarchical view identifies which subdirectories consume the most space without requiring manual exploration of each level, facilitating storage optimization and reorganization planning.
• MP3 and media file metadata support. The software reads ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags from audio files, displaying artist, album, year, genre, and track number information in result columns. The first version of Directory Report was released in 2005, initially developed as an internal solution for file management in corporate environments. The program has evolved since its launch with regular updates that expanded its feature set: incorporation of duplicate analysis, support for media file metadata, directory comparison, and structured export capabilities. Development is maintained by File Utilities, an independent group focused on data administration tools.
