  • Multiple library management. PowerPhotos allows you to work with several Photos libraries simultaneously. This feature makes it possible to distribute your photo collection across different libraries for organization. You can store libraries on external drives or archive old photos in separate libraries. Using multiple libraries can reduce the storage space used in iCloud Photo Library.
  • Duplicate photo search. The application identifies identical copies of photos in one or more libraries. It displays duplicates side-by-side for visual comparison. Users can delete the additional copies to free up space on disk and in iCloud. This tool analyzes selected libraries to locate all matches.
  • Photo library merging. PowerPhotos combines two or more libraries into a single one while preserving the structure. During the merging process, the tool identifies and removes duplicate photos. It keeps albums, edits, and photo metadata intact. It shows a preview of the final result before applying any changes.
  • Photo and metadata copying. This feature allows you to transfer albums and photos between libraries via drag and drop. PowerPhotos copies the photographs while preserving all their associated information. This includes keywords, descriptions, titles, dates, and the favorite status. The process maintains any edits applied to the images at their destination.
  • Photo metadata editing. It offers methods to modify titles, keywords, and descriptions of images. It allows batch editing of multiple photos using configurable templates. Users can quickly move between photos, adding metadata without using the mouse. It assigns new titles and descriptions to groups of photos simultaneously.
  • Search across multiple libraries. An indexing engine allows searching with multiple criteria across libraries. It supports the use of nested predicates and "and/or" combinations. It includes criteria not available in the Photos app, such as file size, video duration, or dimensions. Searches can be performed on a single library or several at once and saved for later use.
  • Advanced export. PowerPhotos exports photos and videos with options that extend the native capabilities of Photos. It allows exporting albums as a folder hierarchy in the Finder that replicates the original structure. It can adjust modification and creation dates in the Finder to match the EXIF date. It includes file name customization and the ability to export Live Photos videos.
  • Photo viewing window. PowerPhotos 3.0 incorporates a photo viewer integrated within its own interface. It allows viewing images at a larger size without needing to open the Photos app. It facilitates reviewing and comparing photographs during organization tasks. The viewer displays the image and its associated metadata information.
  • Batch metadata editing. This feature, introduced in version 3.0, allows modifying properties of multiple photos simultaneously. Changes to titles, keywords, or descriptions are applied to selected groups. It uses configurable templates to automate the assignment of new information. It speeds up the cataloging process for large sets of images.
  • Search indexing. The system builds an index of library contents to speed up searches. This index allows for fast, complex queries with multiple criteria. It is updated automatically when photos are added or modified in monitored libraries. It supports technical criteria such as image dimensions and file properties.
  • iCloud Photo Library compatibility. The application works with libraries synchronized through iCloud Photo Library. It allows managing which libraries are synchronized with Apple's cloud service. It facilitates reducing the storage space used in iCloud through local libraries. It maintains the integrity of photos and their organization when interacting with cloud libraries.

PowerPhotos is developed by Fat Cat Software, a company specializing in macOS applications. The program was created after the release of Apple's Photos app in OS X 10.10.3. The first version was published to provide more advanced management tools than those offered by the native application.
