GS-Calc is a spreadsheet application designed to operate with large volumes of data. It supports worksheets of up to 32 million rows and 16,384 columns. The number of sheets and subfolders in a workbook is unlimited. Text and CSV files that exceed these limits are automatically split into multiple sheets and saved in a ZIP file. The application loads and processes tens of gigabytes of data in minutes. It includes advanced statistical functions, pivot tables, Monte Carlo simulations, and tools for time series analysis.

Support for massive data. GS-Calc's data structure allows handling worksheets with dimensions of 32 million rows by 16,384 columns. This capability is complemented by a memory management system that processes datasets of several tens of gigabytes while maintaining a fast load time. Large files are managed through automatic splitting into multiple sheets.
Tree organization. Spreadsheets and workbooks within GS-Calc are organized in a hierarchical tree structure. This functionality allows grouping related data into folders and subfolders, improving the organization of complex projects with hundreds or thousands of individual sheets.
High-performance pivot tables. GS-Calc's pivot table engine generates summaries from datasets with up to 32 million rows. The implementation uses algorithms optimized for aggregating and sorting large volumes of information, producing results with fast processing times.
Monte Carlo simulations. This function performs risk analysis and stochastic modeling by generating thousands or millions of iterations. It is applied in financial calculations, cost estimation, project evaluation, and for the reverse calculation process in complex formulas, providing probability distributions for the outcomes.
Optimized lookup functions. The VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, MATCH, UNIQUE, and FILTER functions employ binary search algorithms. This implementation guarantees consistent performance in spreadsheets with millions of rows, even when millions of instances of these functions are used simultaneously.
Regular expressions. GS-Calc integrates the use of regular expressions in its text functions, search operations, and the Find and Replace function. This allows for complex pattern matching, text extraction, and substitutions within cells.
Advanced FILTER() function. The FILTER() function operates on millions of rows to perform fast filtering. It also allows for executing multi-key sorting and detecting duplicate records within large datasets, using complex filter criteria.
Charting for large datasets. GS-Calc's charting module visually represents millions of data points. It includes customization options for vertical and horizontal grid lines, allowing for detailed analysis of trends and distributions in massive information.
Configurable cross-highlighting. The cross-highlighting system can be adjusted to enhance on-screen readability during data navigation and selection. It allows defining colors and styles that indicate relationships between different cells, ranges, and sheets.
Unlimited conditional formatting. There are no restrictions on the number of conditional formatting rules that can be created. It is possible to implement and apply millions of formatting rules to extensive ranges, and the calculation engine processes them while maintaining interface responsiveness.
Hyperlinks and external references. The program imposes no limits on the quantity or use of hyperlinks. Hyperlinks between workbooks are created using Copy and Paste commands. Furthermore, all functions, including INDIRECT() and custom functions, can reference cells in closed external workbooks without restrictions.
Multi-core calculation. The user can configure the number of processor cores, from 1 to 64, that GS-Calc will use to perform calculations. This feature speeds up operations in complex and large spreadsheets by distributing the workload among the available cores.
Custom functions via DLL. In addition to approximately 450 built-in functions, GS-Calc allows users to add their own DLL libraries with new functions or replace the default ones. Custom functions maintain the same level of performance, support for dynamic arrays, and multi-core calculation as the native ones.
Native file formats. GS-Calc offers two optional native file formats: the Open Document spreadsheet format *.ods and a fast, compact binary format. The binary format uses data pattern analysis that can generate files up to ten times smaller than those produced by other popular spreadsheet applications.
Compatibility with multiple formats. The application loads, edits, and saves files in CSV, text, XLS, XLSX, dBase, Clipper, FoxPro, MySQL, and SQLite formats, with support for up to 32 million rows. For text files, the column limit is 1 million. All existing files are edited in place, without altering their original format, parameters, or structure.
Specialized numerical functions. The toolset includes matrix decompositions, solving systems of linear equations with iterative refinement, least squares (weighted, with constraints), regression with orthogonal polynomials, time series analysis, minimization, and linear, integer, and quadratic programming.

Development of GS-Calc began in 2003. The program was created by the Citadel5 team. The main developers have maintained a focus on performance optimization and the ability to manage massive datasets. GS-Calc is written in the C++ programming language, with an emphasis on efficient algorithms and direct memory management.
