• Bit-Perfect Playback. This feature ensures that the digital audio signal is transmitted to the digital-to-analog converter (DAC) without alteration. Sample rate synchronization and exclusive access mode to the audio device ensure that no resampling or bit modification is applied by the operating system.
• Hi-Res and lossless format support. The player supports an extensive range of audio formats. It includes lossless formats like FLAC, WAV, AIFF, APE, and DSD (DFF, DSF), as well as compressed formats such as MP3, AAC, and OPUS. Decoding is handled using the BASS library.
• Gapless Playback. A feature that eliminates pauses or silence between consecutive tracks on albums recorded to be heard continuously. This is essential for live recordings or concept albums where the musical flow is continuous.
• Built-in Equalizer. A graphic equalizer allows for adjusting audio frequencies using predefined bands. Users can create and manage custom settings to modify the sound response according to the type of music or the speakers/headphones being used.
• Metadata organization. The music library is structured and allows for navigation based on the ID3 and Vorbis tags of the files. Users can explore their collection by filtering by tracks, albums, artists, or musical genres.
• Automatic recommendation system. The Auto Play feature analyzes the library and current playback to select and play related tracks automatically when a playlist or album ends.
• Synchronized lyrics support. Integration with the lrclib service to download song lyrics. Lyrics are displayed with line-by-line highlighting, synchronized with the playback progress of the track.
• Floating Mini Player. A compact window that remains on top of other applications. It includes basic playback controls, a view of the playback queue, and a panel for displaying synchronized lyrics.
• Audio device selection. Interface for changing the audio output device from the main application. This allows redirecting the sound stream between headphones, external speakers, or audio interfaces without needing to access system preferences.
• Advanced search with FTS5. A full-text search engine that indexes all library metadata. It allows finding tracks, albums, or artists instantly using partial terms. The index rebuild feature resolves search issues.
• Playback history. A chronological record of all played tracks. This log allows reviewing recent listening activity and replaying previously played tracks.
• Favorites Management. Allows marking specific tracks as favorites for quick identification and organization. Marked tracks can be filtered or grouped into automatic playlists.
• Menu bar controls. An icon in the macOS menu bar provides quick access to playback controls (pause, next, previous) and displays information about the currently playing track.

The development of HiFidelity began as a personal project, created by developer Varun Rathod. The main work on the application was carried out starting in the year 2023. The program is written in Swift, the primary programming language for developing native applications in the Apple ecosystem. The software architecture is based on the un4seen BASS audio library for audio processing and TagLib for reading metadata from music files.
