  • Handwriting recognition. This function converts handwritten strokes made with a digital pen or mouse into raw text. The user selects their ink annotations and the program transforms them into digital characters, allowing subsequent export as plain text without formatting.
  • Ink shape recognition. When drawing freehand shapes, the application automatically detects the stroke intent and converts it into perfect circles, rectangles, triangles, or straight lines. This facilitates the creation of precise diagrams and schematics.
  • Multimedia object insertion. Images can be added from the device, clipboard, camera, or web page. The function also allows insertion of videos and audio recordings obtained from local files, camera, or web pages, enriching notes with audiovisual content.
  • PDF import as a book. The application loads complete PDF documents and structures them as a digital book with navigable pages. Each PDF page remains as an image within the notebook, preserving the original layout.
  • Text extraction from images (OCR). Using optical character recognition, the tool analyzes images inserted on the page and extracts the text contained within them. The result can be copied, edited, or saved as part of the notes.
  • Dynamic grid calendar generation. The program automatically creates a calendar in grid format based on the year and month selected by the user. This calendar inserts as an interactive image within the working page.
  • Toast notifications and reminders linked to pages. Pop-up notifications and alarms can be created and associated with saved pages. Each page can trigger an on‑screen alert in Windows, functioning as an integrated reminder system within the notes.
  • Presentation mode with automatic playback. This function converts saved pages into a slideshow that advances automatically. It is useful for presenting work, displaying sketches, or reviewing notes without manual interaction.
  • Book and page organization with subjects. The application allows grouping notebooks into collections, adding subjects or tags to individual pages, duplicating pages, and sorting content according to user‑defined criteria.
  • Export to multiple image formats. Created work can be saved as PNG, JPG, JPEG, BMP, TIFF, or GIF files. This variety of formats allows using the creations in other programs or sharing according to technical requirements.
  • Backup and synchronization with OneDrive. The tool links data to a OneDrive account to create online albums, perform automatic backups, and restore information from the cloud. This preserves work against device failures.
  • Technical drawing tools: ruler and protractor. A realistic ruler and a digital protractor are included and can be positioned over the page. These tools assist in drawing straight lines and circles with exact measurements.

The Inkodo application was created by a software development company based in Redmond, Washington, as part of the Windows ecosystem tools. Development began in the year 2017, aiming to provide a handwritten note‑taking solution for touch devices and digital pens. The program is written primarily in C++ and C#, using the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) framework to integrate with modern features of Windows 10 and Windows 11.
