Disk cloning. Clonezilla allows you to create an exact copy of a hard disk or partition, including the operating system, settings, and data. Cloning is performed sector by sector or only used sectors, depending on the configuration.
Image restoration. The created images can be restored to the same device or to different hardware. This is useful for migrating systems or recovering data after a failure.
Support for multiple file systems. Clonezilla works with ext2, ext3, ext4, xfs, jfs, btrfs, FAT, NTFS and others. This allows its use on different operating systems without limitations.
Unicast and multicast modes. In unicast mode, cloning is performed between one source and one destination. In multicast mode, an image can be distributed simultaneously to multiple machines on a network.
Image compression. Images can be compressed using gzip, bzip2 or lzma to save storage space. Compression can be configured according to the desired level.
Image encryption. Clonezilla supports AES-256 encryption to protect images from unauthorized access. The key must be provided during the restoration process.
Boot from USB or CD. No installation is required, as it can be run from removable media. This makes it easy to use in environments where installing additional software is not possible.
Custom scripts. It allows executing commands before or after cloning. This is useful for automating specific tasks during the process.
Hardware RAID support. Clonezilla can handle hardware RAID configurations, cloning entire volumes without needing to disassemble the array.
Detailed logging. It generates logs during the cloning or restoration process. These logs help diagnose problems and verify the success of the operation.
Virtual machine compatibility. It works with VMware, VirtualBox, KVM and other hypervisors. It can clone virtual disks and convert them between formats.
Flexible partitioning. During restoration, it is possible to adjust the size of partitions to fit disks of different capacities.

Clonezilla was developed by Steven Shiau and his team at NCHC Labs in Taiwan. The project started in 2003 as a free software cloning solution. It is written primarily in Perl and Shell Script, with components in C for low-level operations. The first stable version was released in 2004, and since then it has received regular updates to improve its functionality and compatibility.
