Plexo

Plexo — Free Download. Multi-Network Download Manager
Plexo is a download manager for Windows, macOS and Linux that splits one file across several internet connections at the same time. Wi-Fi, Ethernet and a phone tethered over USB work together on a single download. The program handles direct links, magnet links and .torrent files, and provides a queue, speed limits, data allowances for each network, scheduled downloads and automatic updates.

  • Multi-network download. Plexo splits each download across every network adapter that the user selects, such as Wi-Fi, Ethernet or a phone tethered over USB. A second connection adds to the total speed instead of staying idle. The gain appears only when each network reaches the internet through its own line.
  • Block-based splitting. A file is divided into blocks of up to 8 MB, and the streams on every network fetch these blocks in parallel. Each stream takes the next free block as soon as it finishes the previous one, so the file assembles from pieces delivered by all networks.
  • Adaptive stream count. Each network starts with 8 streams and raises the count to 16 and then 32 once all streams receive data. Downloads running at the same time share the 32 streams of a network. The New download dialog also offers fixed values of 4, 8, 16 or 32.
  • Load balancing between networks. A faster network fetches more blocks than a slower one, because blocks go to free streams instead of being assigned to networks in advance. A slow connection does not hold back the total speed of the download.
  • Finish acceleration. Near the end of a download, a free stream starts racing a slow block from the position the slow stream reached. The first stream to complete the block wins, which removes the long wait for the last piece.
  • Pause and resume with verification. Progress is saved during the transfer. Before resuming, Plexo checks that the file on the server has not changed, and it refuses to continue when the file differs, which prevents a mix of two versions in one file.
  • Recovery after restart and sleep. A download that was active when Plexo quit returns in the paused state. Streams restart when the computer wakes or when a network receives a new address. Plexo keeps the computer awake while a download runs.
  • Expired link repair. When a link expires, a fresh link to the same file can be pasted with the Fix link button, and the download continues from the point where it stopped instead of starting over.
  • Server-aware backoff. When a server refuses some streams with the codes 403, 429 or 503, or gives no answer, the affected network drops to the number of streams the server accepted, and then regains one stream every minute.
  • Torrent support. Plexo opens magnet links and .torrent files, including a .torrent opened from the file manager and, on macOS and Linux, a magnet link from the browser. Plexo does not replace the default handler of a torrent client that is already installed. Files inside a torrent can be chosen before the start and changed while it runs.
  • Peer distribution and uploads. Each new torrent peer connects through the network that has the fewest peers, and switching a network off moves its peers to the remaining networks. Pieces are sent back to peers over every network, USB-tethered ones included.
  • Queue and downloads list. Two downloads run at once by default, and the limit can be set from one to eight. The rest wait and start when a slot opens. The list groups items as Downloading, Queued, Paused, Needs attention and Finished, and finished items remain after a restart.
  • Bulk actions. Selected downloads can be paused, resumed, retried, cancelled, removed from the list or moved with their files to the Trash or Recycle Bin. Cancel and Move to Trash ask for confirmation, and for a torrent only the files downloaded by Plexo are moved.
  • Speed limits and Slow mode. A total limit applies to all downloads, and a separate limit applies to each network, set in KB/s or MB/s. Slow mode replaces the total limit with a lower value, 2 MB/s by default, and suits periods such as a video call.
  • Data limits per network. A daily, weekly or monthly allowance in GB is counted for each network, torrents included. Plexo stops using a network when its allowance is used up. Days reset at midnight, weeks on Monday and months on the 1st, and usage is kept across restarts.
  • Download schedule. Downloads run only in chosen hours, for example from 00:00 to 07:00, on selected days and with an optional end date. Outside the window new and resumed downloads wait in the queue. Plexo must stay running and the computer must stay awake for the start.
  • Browser extension. The extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox passes a download to Plexo together with the sign-in of the browser, so files behind a login download in the same way as in the browser.
  • Automatic updates. New versions download in the background and install at restart. The update button in the bottom bar shows progress, and automatic updates can be turned off there or in the Plexo menu on a Mac.
  • Named networks and live view. Adapters appear under real names such as Wi-Fi, Ethernet or iPhone, and can be renamed and recolored. Throughput charts, time left, per-stream statistics and a grid of blocks colored by the network that fetched each block show the state of a download.
  • Right-click menu. Every action for a download, from Pause to Move file to Trash, is in its context menu, and text fields offer Cut, Copy and Paste. Opening New download fills in a link copied to the clipboard.

Plexo was created by Anmol Kapil and first appeared in 2026, when the first public posts about the program were published. The repository lists five contributors who work on the code together with the author. The program is written in TypeScript and runs as a desktop application on Electron and Node.js, which keeps one codebase for Windows, macOS and Linux. Later versions added automatic updates, scheduled downloads, the browser extension and the right-click menu.
