  • Messaging with Markdown. Users can apply rich formatting to their messages using Markdown syntax. This includes bold, italics, lists, code, and blockquotes, enhancing clarity and expressiveness in written conversations.
  • Organized channels for communities. Communities can be structured into topic-based channels, similar to other professional platforms. This organization allows for separating conversations by project, interest, or team, keeping the workflow tidy.
  • Link previews. When sharing a URL in a chat, the system automatically generates a preview with the title, description, and an image of the content. This makes it easier to identify shared content without needing to click the link.
  • Multi-device voice and video calls. The platform supports real-time communication with simultaneous connection from multiple devices. Users can join a call from their computer and continue it on their phone without interruption.
  • Integrated screen sharing. During a video call, participants can share their screen with others. This feature is useful for work presentations, remote support, or for viewing multimedia content in a group.
  • Advanced audio processing. Fluxer incorporates noise reduction and echo cancellation algorithms. This ensures clear communication by filtering out ambient sounds and eliminating acoustic reverberation during calls.
  • Granular role and permission system. Community administrators can define roles with specific sets of permissions. This allows for precise control over who can send messages, invite users, moderate channels, or manage server settings.
  • Audit logs. A detailed history of administrative actions taken within a community is maintained. The logs show which moderator performed an action and when, providing transparency in team management.
  • Support for webhooks and bots. Fluxer enables automated integration via webhooks to send messages from external services. Furthermore, its architecture supports the creation of bots to automate moderation tasks or provide interactive functionalities.
  • Advanced search with filters. The search function allows users to locate old messages by filtering by user, date, channel, or keywords. This is essential for retrieving specific information in communities with a high volume of messages.
  • Customization via custom CSS. Technically-inclined users can modify the visual appearance of the client by writing their own CSS stylesheets. This allows for completely personalized visual themes beyond the default options.
  • Self-hosting of the backend. The entire server code is available under the AGPLv3 license, allowing anyone to run their own instance of Fluxer. Users can connect their clients to their own servers or to the official instance.

Fluxer's development began as an independent alternative to centralized messaging platforms. The application is primarily written in TypeScript, using React for the desktop client and Node.js for the backend. Its creation responds to the need for a modern communication system that preserves privacy and grants users and administrators total control over their infrastructure.
