  • Theme selection. Keynote includes a library of over 40 visual themes designed by Apple. Each theme provides a coordinated set of slide layouts, fonts, and color palettes. Selecting a theme establishes the aesthetic foundation of the entire presentation, ensuring visual consistency.
  • Slide navigator. This pane displays a thumbnail view of all slides in the presentation. It facilitates reorganizing the order by dragging, adding new slides, and quickly navigating between different sections of the project. The thumbnail view helps maintain an overall perspective of the structure.
  • Cinematic animations and transitions. The application offers a variety of effects for the entry, exit, and emphasis of objects, as well as transitions between slides. Effects like "Magic Move" automatically interpolate changes in position and style between slides. Real-time previews allow you to adjust the duration and style of each animation.
  • Real-time collaboration. Multiple users can edit the same presentation simultaneously from Mac, iPad, iPhone devices, or a web browser. Changes appear instantly for all participants. The feature shows the cursor and name of each active collaborator in the document.
  • Integrated live video. Allows inserting a live video feed directly into a slide, using the device's built-in camera or a connected camera. The video can be resized and positioned alongside other elements. This feature is designed to incorporate the presenter or dynamic content during the presentation.
  • Interactive image galleries. Allows creating collections of photos that viewers can explore using swipe gestures or clicks within the presentation in play mode. Images in the gallery can have custom transitions and individual text captions.
  • Format import. Keynote can open and edit files created in Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx, .ppt). Most elements, animations, and formatting are preserved after import. This compatibility facilitates document exchange with users of different software platforms.
  • Drawing tools and shapes. Includes a library of over 700 editable geometric shapes and symbols. Each shape can be customized in stroke weight, fill color, and shadow effects. Freehand drawing tools allow you to create custom vector graphics directly on the slide.
  • Animated charts and diagrams. Bar, line, area, and pie charts can be configured with progressive build animations. Data is entered into an integrated spreadsheet. Charts update automatically when data is modified and maintain the associated animations.
  • Presentation mode with notes. During the presentation, the presenter's display shows the current slide, the next one in sequence, speaker notes, and a timer. This view is exclusive to the presenter, while the audience only sees the main slide. The presenter display window is configurable to adapt to different workflows.
  • Multi-presenter presentations. Allows multiple presenters to control the same presentation sequentially from their own devices. Each presenter can advance their slides when it is their turn. The transition of control happens seamlessly for the audience.
  • Export to multiple formats. Presentations can be exported as Microsoft PowerPoint files, PDFs, HTML packages, video sequences (such as MP4 or MOV), or sets of image files (JPEG, PNG, TIFF). Each export format includes specific options for quality, resolution, and compatibility.
  • Instant alpha. A tool that allows manually removing the background of an image by selecting areas of similar color. The user clicks and drags over a color in the image to make it transparent. This process facilitates integrating objects without a background into slide compositions.
  • iCloud syncing. Documents saved in iCloud Drive are accessible and editable from any authorized Apple device and from iCloud.com. Each modification is automatically saved and synced between devices. This functionality provides continuous backup and universal access to your work.

Keynote was developed by Apple Inc. and first introduced in January 2003 by Steve Jobs. The software was originally created for the macOS operating system (then Mac OS X) and later expanded to iOS (iPad and iPhone). The initial development of the program was carried out internally at Apple. Keynote's source code is primarily written in the Objective-C and Swift programming languages, using the Cocoa frameworks and later UIKit for the iOS versions. The first version was conceived as a tool for Steve Jobs' own presentations, aiming to offer greater visual and typographic control than the solutions existing at that time. Over time, it was integrated into the iWork suite and adapted to subscription models and distribution through the Mac App Store and the App Store.
