The development of FotoMagico began in 2004 by Boinx Software, a German company based in Puchheim. The initial development team was led by Oliver Breidenbach and Chris Klingler. The first commercial version was released in 2005. The program's code is written primarily in Objective-C and Swift, using native macOS frameworks such as Cocoa and Core Animation. Subsequent updates have incorporated support for new hardware technologies and multimedia file formats.
