URL based download. Stacher accepts video links from sites including YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, Twitter and hundreds more. The user pastes the address into the main field, and the program analyzes the content to offer quality and format options before initiating file transfer.
Quality and format selection. For each video the user can choose resolution (up to 8K), video codec (H.264, VP9, AV1) and container (MP4, MKV, webm). For audio the tool allows selecting bitrate (from 64 kbps to 320 kbps) and format (MP3, M4A, OPUS, FLAC, WAV).
Playlist downloading. The tool processes complete YouTube and other platform playlists. It permits specifying a range of videos within the playlist (for example 5 through 20) or downloading only the first N items.
Audio extraction without video. Stacher converts any video directly to a sound file. It retains metadata such as title, artist, album and uses the video thumbnail as cover art for the audio file when the corresponding option is configured.
Subtitle management. Downloads embedded or external subtitles in SRT, VTT, ASS formats. Subtitles can be obtained automatically in the original language or translated, burned into the video, or saved as separate files.
Video trimming. The trimming function allows selecting a time segment (start and end in seconds or HH:MM:SS format) to download only a portion of the original video. This avoids processing entire files when only a fragment is needed.
Multiple yt dlp configurations. The program stores custom profiles with advanced arguments. For example a profile for downloading only audio, another for maximum video quality, another for limiting download speed. Profiles are switched with one click.
Subscription automation. Stacher can monitor channels or playlists and automatically download new videos when they are published. The checking frequency (every hour, day, week) and format rules are programmable.
Yt dlp log viewer. Displays the yt-dlp command output in real time including warnings, errors, download progress and server messages. This information helps debug connection issues or website restrictions.
Automated FFmpeg installation tool. Stacher checks whether FFmpeg is present on the system and if not downloads and installs it without manual intervention. FFmpeg is required for combining video and audio, trimming segments or converting formats.
Quick settings change with CTRL+P. Pressing this key combination opens a popup window with the most frequent settings (destination folder, default format, speed limit). Values are modified without navigating extensive menus.
Built in media player (Premium). The paid version includes a video and audio player inside the same window. It permits previewing trimmed segments, verifying downloaded file quality and listening to audio tracks without opening external programs.
Media library (Premium). Organizes downloaded files in an internal database. Displays thumbnails, duration, download date and allows filtering by platform, format or keyword. Files can be played, deleted or moved from the interface.
Pro Mode for advanced users. Activates direct input fields for complex yt-dlp parameters such as cookies from browser, HTTP authentication, SOCKS5 proxy, or manual selection of audio and video tracks by ID.

Stacher was created in 2020 by an independent developer looking for a visual alternative to yt-dlp. The project began as a personal tool and was later released for free. The program is written primarily in JavaScript (Node.js) and uses Electron for cross platform desktop interface. The main developer maintains the code in a private repository with occasional contributors. Initial versions supported only YouTube but monthly updates added compatibility with more than 100 sites through integration with yt-dlp.
