  • Structured requirements capture. Allows entering requirements in a tabular format with customizable attributes such as unique identifier, description, priority, status, version, and acceptance criteria. Each requirement is organized in a table that maintains the hierarchical document structure, facilitating batch editing and specification reading.
  • Traceability matrix. Generates a matrix view displaying relationships between requirements, test cases, risks, and design elements. The matrix enables detection of orphaned requirements, broken links, or insufficient coverage, and exports the analysis to external formats for audits.
  • Automated traceability reports. Creates reports documenting all traceable relationships within the project. Each report lists direct and indirect links between requirements and artifacts, showing coverage and consistency status for regulatory certifications.
  • Import from HTML and CSV. Incorporates existing data by importing HTML or CSV files. The process preserves requirement structure, attributes, and predefined hierarchies, reducing manual migration from other tools.
  • Predefined templates for standards. Offers built-in templates following guidelines of regulations such as IEC 62304, DO-178C, ISO 26262, and CMMI. Each template includes predefined attributes and sections to accelerate project initiation in regulated environments.
  • Linking of attachments and external documents. Links requirements to PDF files, images, spreadsheets, or any other document type. Links are displayed within traceability, allowing external files to be opened directly from the ReqView interface.
  • Attribute-level change control. Records modification history for each individual attribute within a requirement, test case, or risk. The system shows who made the change, when, and the previous value, providing a complete audit trail without depending on external version control systems.
  • Document encryption. Applies AES-256 encryption to requirement files to protect sensitive information. Documents can only be opened with the correct password, maintaining confidentiality in regulatory environments or when sharing files over non-secure channels.
  • Export to Word, Excel, HTML, and CSV. Converts entire projects or partial selections to Microsoft Word (DOCX), Excel (XLSX), HTML, and CSV formats. Export preserves attributes, hierarchies, and links as text or columns depending on the destination format.
  • Integrated risk tracking. Manages risks as independent artifacts linked to specific requirements. Each risk includes fields for probability, impact, mitigation, and status, and risk-requirement relationships appear in the traceability matrix for risk coverage analysis.
  • Test case management. Defines test cases with steps, expected results, and pass criteria. Test cases link to requirements to demonstrate complete verification, and the system generates automated requirement-to-test traceability reports.
  • Hierarchical document structure view. Displays a sidebar panel with the tree of sections, subsections, and grouped requirements. The hierarchical structure allows dragging elements to reorganize the document, collapsing entire branches, and quickly navigating between extensive chapters.

The development history of ReqView began around 2015, when the company ReqView, founded by professionals with experience in systems engineering and requirements management, identified the need for a lightweight yet complete tool for regulated environments. Initially the application functioned as a web solution, and later developers transformed it into a cross-platform desktop application using the JavaScript language and the Electron framework. The core development team maintains its headquarters in the European Union and continues to add features based on customer requirements from medical, aerospace, and automotive sectors. The current stable version is used by companies requiring traceability documentation for certifications such as FDA, MDR, ISO 26262, and AS9100.
