VHDAttach

VHDAttach is a Windows utility that adds mount and unmount options to the context menu of virtual disk files (VHD/VHDX). The program allows operations with virtual disks without using the Disk Management console.

VHDAttach development began in 2011 as a response to the limitations of native virtual disk management in Windows. Programmer Medo64 identified the need for more direct access to VHD file operations. The first public version was released in December 2011 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. The code was written in C++ using Windows APIs for system shell integration. In 2012, support for Windows 8 and the VHDX format was added. Version 2.0 from 2013 incorporated auto-mount on system startup. In 2015, support for ISO images was implemented.
