  • Centralized file management. Clustta automatically organizes all creative projects and files into a single, accessible repository. The system maintains a logical directory structure that allows any asset to be located, even months after a project has been completed, without needing to resort to external drives or non-specialized storage services.
  • Version control without duplicates. The platform implements a versioning system that saves the complete history of each file without replicating the content. When a user saves a new version, Clustta stores only the changes, optimizing disk space and preventing the proliferation of files with suffixes like final_v3 or definitive_corrected.
  • Checkpoints and time travel. Checkpoints function as markers on the project timeline. The user can create a checkpoint before exploring an alternative creative direction, and if the result is unsatisfactory, they can revert to the checkpoint without losing the work done. This functionality allows for non-destructive experimentation.
  • Failure recovery. In the event that creative software (such as Blender, After Effects, or Photoshop) closes unexpectedly or a file becomes corrupted, Clustta allows restoring the last valid version from the saved checkpoint. The system maintains consistent copies of the work to minimize data loss from system or program failures.
  • Complete version history. Every file managed by Clustta maintains an accessible record from the very first day of its creation. The user can browse the file's timeline, view old versions, and restore any point in the history with a single click, without needing to search through external backups.
  • Secure sharing via tags. For collaboration, the system uses a user tag mechanism. Instead of relying on shared network drives, the project owner can share an individual file or an entire project simply by mentioning the collaborator's tag, granting them immediate access without needing to configure complex permissions.
  • Granular permissions per project. Clustta allows you to precisely define which users have access to which resources and what actions they can perform. The administrator can configure read, write, or administration permissions for specific users, and modify these accesses at any time according to workflow needs.
  • Cloud synchronization (ClusttaCloud). The platform offers a cloud service that automatically synchronizes projects among team members. Files are uploaded to the Clustta cloud and kept up-to-date on all workstations, allowing remote access from any location without configuring a VPN or local servers.
  • Self-hosting for studios. For teams that require total control over their data, Clustta provides the option to deploy a private server instance on the studio's infrastructure. This mode retains all the platform's functionalities but with data stored on the studio's own servers, meeting security or confidentiality requirements.
  • Instant search. Clustta's search engine indexes all projects, tasks, and assets, allowing elements to be located instantly via text queries. The search covers file names, metadata, version descriptions, and checkpoint content, delivering results as the user types.
  • Filtering by preset metadata. The interface incorporates filters based on metadata such as task types, collections, tags, file status, and extensions. These filters allow you to quickly narrow down extensive listings to show only, for example, all textures with an "approved" status or the .blender files from a specific project phase.
  • Custom workspaces. Users can save specific combinations of searches and filters as workspaces. This functionality allows quickly returning to a predefined view, such as "animation pending review" or "scene 3 assets," without having to reconfigure the filters each time.
  • Integrations with creative software. Clustta offers plugins and integrations that allow interaction with the platform directly from applications like Blender or production management tools like Kitsu. From within the creative software, the artist can save versions, create checkpoints, or consult the history without leaving the application.
  • Web link tracking. The tool allows adding links to external resources, such as moodboards on web platforms, documentation in Google Docs, or references on Pinterest. These links are associated with the project and Clustta keeps a record of them, integrating them into the unified project view.
  • Trash and recovery of deleted items. Files deleted within Clustta are not permanently erased immediately but are moved to the trash. From there, the administrator can recover items for a configurable period, protecting against accidental deletions or last-minute changes in project scope.
  • Configurable user roles. The platform allows defining custom roles beyond the standard "administrator" or "user". The project manager can create profiles with specific permission combinations, such as "reviewer" (read-only and comments) or "external collaborator" (temporary access to a limited set of files).
  • Automation of recurring workflows. Clustta allows modeling workflows for processes that repeat in production, such as asset review or material delivery. These workflows guide team members through predefined stages, ensuring that no critical steps are omitted.
  • Global ignore list. The administrator can configure a list of patterns or extensions that Clustta should globally ignore across all projects. This prevents the system from tracking temporary files, software caches, or system documents that are not part of the creative work, keeping the repository clean.

Development of Clustta began in 2022. The application is written in the Rust programming language, chosen for its performance, memory safety, and ability to handle concurrent file operations without overhead. The team behind the project is composed of developers with prior experience in VFX pipelines and animation production, which has influenced the design of functionalities aimed at solving real-world problems for studios and creative teams.
