Duplicate Photo Cleaner

Duplicate Photo Cleaner — Free Download. Find and remove duplicate images
Duplicate Photo Cleaner is an application specialized in detecting and removing duplicate photos on computers. The software analyzes the visual content of images to identify similarities, even when files have different formats, sizes, or have been edited. The comparison process is carried out using pattern matching algorithms that examine the unique characteristics of each photograph. The interface is designed to guide the user step by step through folder selection, analysis, and result review. File selection for removal remains under manual user control at all times.

  • Comparison by visual content. The algorithm analyzes the actual content of the images, not just file names or metadata. This makes it possible to find duplicates even when images have been renamed, converted to different formats, or saved with different resolutions. The comparison is based on unique digital fingerprints generated for each image.
  • Detection of similar images. The feature identifies not only exact copies but also photos that are visually similar. This includes images with crops, resizing, color adjustments, brightness or contrast changes, and photos taken in quick succession (burst mode). The user can adjust the sensitivity level to control how strict the comparison should be.
  • Support for multiple formats. The application is compatible with all common image formats, including JPEG, PNG, BMP, TIFF, GIF, RAW from various cameras, and web image formats. The analysis engine processes each format using specific decoders to ensure accurate comparison regardless of the file type.
  • Comparison of folders and subfolders. The user can select multiple folders to compare with each other or within the same directory structure. Recursive scanning automatically includes all subfolders, allowing analysis of entire drives or photo libraries organized in complex directory structures.
  • Advanced selection filters. A filtering system that allows organizing results by criteria such as creation date, file size, resolution, or format. The filters help quickly identify which versions of duplicate images to keep based on objective technical parameters.
  • Side-by-side comparison preview. A comparison interface showing duplicate images next to each other with optional zoom. The view includes detailed technical information for each file (size, dimensions, date) to facilitate decision-making about which copy to delete.
  • Protection against accidental deletion. A confirmation mechanism that requires manual verification before deleting any file. Files marked for deletion are first moved to the system recycle bin, allowing restoration in case of error.
  • Disk space usage analysis. A tool that calculates and displays the amount of storage space that can be freed by deleting identified duplicates. The report includes detailed statistics on the total number of files, duplicates found, and distribution by format.
  • Quick and deep scan modes. Two operation modes: quick scan that compares metadata and file hashes, and deep scan that performs complete visual content analysis. Quick mode is suitable for initial identification, while deep mode detects modified images.
  • Result management and export. Ability to save analysis results to a file for later review or batch processing. Reports can be exported in CSV or HTML formats for archiving or external analysis.
  • Exclusion of specific folders. Option to define folders that should be omitted during the scanning process, useful for avoiding system directories or folders containing critical data. Exclusions can be saved as profiles for repeated use.
  • Support for RAW+JPEG images. Specialized detection for pairs of RAW and JPEG images generated by cameras. The algorithm identifies these pairs and offers specific options for managing which format to keep based on user preferences.

Duplicate Photo Cleaner was developed by Systematic Paris, a French company specializing in utility software and system maintenance. Development began in 2012 in response to the growing problem of duplicate storage in digital photo libraries. The first public version was released in 2013 with basic image comparison capabilities. The program is written primarily in C++ with graphical interface components in .NET Framework. The image comparison algorithms incorporate computer vision techniques for visual similarity analysis.
