  • git town hack Creates a new feature branch from the up-to-date main branch and switches to it automatically. This replaces several manual Git commands when starting a new task.
  • git town sync Updates the current branch and its related branches with the latest changes from the main branch and from the remote, and pushes your local commits. It helps you resolve conflicts early, while they are still small.
  • git town propose Creates a pull request for the current branch. It opens the correct page of the repository on your hosting service in the browser, with the branch already selected.
  • git town ship Merges the finished feature branch into the main branch, pushes the result to the remote, and deletes the feature branch. Ideal for integrating completed work.
  • git town delete Deletes a feature branch both locally and on the remote in a single step, so unneeded branches do not pile up.
  • git town repo Opens the repository's page on the hosting service in your default browser, for quick access to the project's web interface.
  • git town append Creates a new branch as a child of the current one, which makes it easy to build stacks of dependent branches for large features.
  • git town prepend Creates a new branch between the current branch and its parent, which is useful for splitting out preparatory changes.
  • git town rename Renames a local branch and its remote counterpart at the same time, and updates the related references to keep everything consistent.
  • git town undo Reverts the effects of the last Git Town command, restoring the repository to its previous state. This gives you a safe way to recover from mistakes.
  • git town switch Shows a visual list of your branches, with their hierarchy, in the terminal so you can quickly switch to another branch.

Git Town was created by Kevin Goslar and is developed as an open-source project, with contributions from its community. It is written in Go, a compiled language that gives it good performance and makes it portable across operating systems. The tool is actively maintained, with regular updates that add new features and improve stability.
