  • Snippet storage. Gisto lets you save pieces of code in a local database or in the cloud via GitHub Gist. Each snippet can contain one or more files with syntax highlighting.
  • Multi-language support. The application recognizes more than 300 programming languages and file formats. Syntax highlighting is applied automatically based on the file extension.
  • GitHub Gist synchronization. Snippets can be uploaded, updated, and downloaded from GitHub Gist. Changes are reflected in both directions while a local copy is maintained.
  • Advanced search. Includes filters by language, tags, file name, or content. Results are displayed in real time as you type your query.
  • Organization with tags. Snippets can be categorized using custom tags. This makes thematic grouping easier, regardless of language or project.
  • Multi-file editing. Each snippet can contain several files that are editable separately. The interface displays tabs for switching between them while editing.
  • Export in various formats. Snippets can be exported as individual files, in JSON format, or as HTML documents with colored syntax.
  • Dark mode and customization. The graphical interface includes light and dark themes. Syntax highlighting colors follow the standard schemes of popular editors.
  • Change history. Keeps a record of modifications for each snippet. You can compare versions or revert to a previous state.
  • Direct sharing. Generates public or private links to share snippets. Access permissions are configured according to GitHub Gist settings.
  • Clipboard integration. Copies the content of any snippet to the system clipboard with a single click, preserving the original formatting.
  • Predefined templates. Includes preconfigured snippets for common configurations in frameworks and development environments.
  • Favorites marking. Your most frequently used snippets can be marked as favorites for quick access from a dedicated section.

Gisto was originally developed in 2013 by Anton Grigoryev as a desktop alternative to GitHub Gist. The first stable version was released in 2014. The program is written in JavaScript using the Electron framework, which enables cross-platform operation. Active development continued until 2018, with later updates focused on maintenance and compatibility.
