VSCodium is a community-driven build of the Visual Studio Code editor, compiled from the original open-source code but without Microsoft's branding, telemetry, and tracking components. Advanced code editing. VSCodium includes syntax highlighting, smart code completion, and code formatting for many programming languages. It supports customizable color themes and language-specific settings.
Integrated debugging. It lets you debug code directly in the editor with breakpoints, variable inspection, and an interactive console. Debugging for Node.js, Python, C++, and other runtimes is available through extensions.
Git version control. It integrates tools for managing Git repositories without leaving the editor. These include a diff viewer, change staging, and basic Git commands in the interface.
Integrated terminal. It offers a terminal inside the editor for running system commands or scripts. It supports multiple terminal instances and custom profiles.
Extension support. VSCodium does not use the official Microsoft Marketplace by default. Instead, it lets you install extensions from the Open VSX Registry or manually from VSIX files.

VSCodium started in 2018 as a response to concerns about telemetry and licensing in Visual Studio Code. It is maintained by a community of independent developers who build clean binaries from the open-source VS Code code. The editor is written mainly in TypeScript and uses the Electron framework for its cross-platform interface. New releases follow the stable VS Code versions, so you get the latest features soon after they appear.
