guIDE

guIDE — Free Download. Native IDE with local AI for programmers
guIDE is the first truly native, local IDE for artificial intelligence. Developed by GraySoft, it runs language models directly on the user's machine without needing a cloud connection, offering unlimited code completions and total privacy. Its architecture, similar to VS Code, integrates a local inference engine (GPU/CPU), an autonomous agent loop (Agentic AI Loop) that plans and executes multi-step tasks, and an RAG system that indexes the source code to provide contextually accurate responses. It includes 53 built-in MCP tools, browser automation with Playwright, a code runner for over 50 languages, and voice input via Whisper. It is available for Windows, Linux, and macOS, with variants like Pocket guIDE (browser version) and Side guIDE (Chrome extension).

  • Local LLM Inference. Runs language models directly on the computer's GPU or CPU. All processing occurs on the local machine, ensuring that code and data never leave the developer's computer. This eliminates dependence on external servers, allows working without an internet connection, and ensures absolute privacy of the source code.
  • Agentic AI Loop. An artificial intelligence system that autonomously executes complex tasks through multiple steps. The agent plans the strategy, invokes the necessary tools (such as web search or file manipulation), evaluates the results obtained, and repeats the process until the objective is completed. This allows for automating complex workflows like extensive refactorings or systematic debugging.
  • RAG Context. A semantic index that analyzes and understands the entire project's codebase. It uses Retrieval-Augmented Generation techniques to provide the AI model with relevant contextual information, resulting in more accurate responses, code suggestions consistent with the existing architecture, and intelligent assistance for project navigation.
  • Built-in MCP Tools. An extensive set of native tools based on the Model Context Protocol. It includes utilities for file operations (create, read, modify), web search, browser automation, system command execution, clipboard management, and many other functions essential for development and automation.
  • Browser Automation. Complete integration with Playwright to control web browsers via scripts or AI commands. It allows for performing user interface tests, data extraction (web scraping), automation of repetitive tasks in web applications, and visual verification of page behavior, all from within the IDE environment.
  • Code Runner. A system capable of compiling and executing code in over 50 programming languages directly inside the IDE. It supports everything from compiled languages like C++, Rust, or Go, to interpreted ones like Python, JavaScript, or Ruby, allowing developers to test code snippets, complete scripts, or applications without needing to configure external environments.
  • Voice Input. A speech recognition module based on Whisper that transcribes voice commands into text. Developers can dictate code, write documentation, or issue instructions to the AI using voice, which speeds up text input and facilitates use for people with writing difficulties.
  • Git Integration. A fully integrated visual Git client within the IDE interface. It provides tools for managing repositories, making commits, handling branches, viewing differences between versions (diff), resolving merge conflicts, and syncing with remote repositories without needing to use the command line.
  • 9 Cloud LLM Providers. Although the main focus is local, guIDE optionally allows connecting to cloud AI services like OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google. This offers flexibility to use specific cloud models when necessary, while maintaining local capability as the default option to preserve privacy.
  • Hardware-Aware Model Selection. A mechanism that automatically analyzes the system's hardware capabilities (RAM, GPU VRAM, processor type) to recommend and configure the most suitable local language model. It optimizes performance and stability, preventing the user from having to manually research which models their computer can run.
  • Pocket guIDE (browser version). A complete implementation of the IDE that works directly in any web browser, without needing installation or a dedicated GPU. It includes core functionalities like the AI agent, browser automation, command execution, and 19 specific tools, with 10 MB of free local storage for small projects.
  • Side guIDE (Chrome extension). An extension for the Chrome browser that integrates guIDE's capabilities directly into the web browsing experience. It allows interacting with web content, extracting information, automating tasks on visited pages, and using the AI assistant without leaving the browser, complementing the developer's workflow.

guIDE's development began in 2024 by the company GraySoft, founded by developers with experience in productivity tools and artificial intelligence systems. The application is primarily programmed in TypeScript and Rust: TypeScript for the user interface based on the Monaco Editor (the same editor used by VS Code) and for the browser integration layer; Rust for the high-performance components, such as the local inference engine, the RAG indexing system, and the communication layer with the hardware (GPU/CPU).
