  • CPU analysis. JProfiler lets you record and analyze the execution time of Java methods. It includes a detailed call tree showing time consumption per method, with aggregated statistics. The tool can filter by specific packages or classes to focus the analysis.
  • Memory monitor. Provides detailed information about heap and non-heap memory usage. Shows object histograms and consumption trends, and helps detect memory leaks through reference analysis. Includes snapshot comparison to identify abnormal object growth.
  • Thread tracking. Visualizes the state and activity of all threads in the JVM. Detects deadlocks, lock contention, and synchronization problems. Shows thread state charts and wait times.
  • Remote profiling. Lets you connect to Java applications running on remote servers. Supports connections via SSH tunnels and the JProfiler agent. In many cases, profiling can be attached to a running JVM without restarting the application.
  • IDE integration. Offers plugins for Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEA, and NetBeans. Lets you start profiling sessions directly from the development environment. Displays results in panels integrated into the IDE.
  • JDBC analysis. Monitors all database operations performed through JDBC. Provides execution time statistics per SQL query. Detects slow queries and connection problems.
  • JPA/Hibernate support. Analyzes queries generated by ORM frameworks. Shows the actual SQL executed and how it maps to JPA operations. Includes performance metrics specific to persistence layers.
  • JVM telemetry. Collects and visualizes system metrics such as CPU usage, physical memory, and GC activity. Shows the correlation between system metrics and application behavior.
  • I/O analysis. Monitors read/write operations on files and sockets. Identifies bottlenecks in input/output operations. Provides statistics per file and per operation.
  • Data export. Lets you save profiling sessions in binary or CSV format. Generates HTML reports with analysis results. Supports comparison between different runs.
  • Flexible configuration. Offers multiple options for tuning profiling overhead. Lets you define triggers for automatic data capture. Includes configurable filters for methods and packages.
  • Enterprise application support. Compatible with application servers such as WebSphere, JBoss, and Tomcat. Integrates with frameworks such as Spring and Java EE. Allows profiling of distributed applications.

JProfiler was developed by ej-technologies GmbH, a German company specializing in development tools. The first version was released in 2003. The program is written primarily in Java, with native components for the user interface and low-level connectors. Over the years, it has added support for new Java versions and related technologies, while maintaining its focus on high-performance profiling.
