Instant region selection. When activating a capture, the screen darkens and an area selector with a built-in magnifier appears. You can draw a rectangle with the mouse to capture only the desired part. The process is optimized to take less than two seconds.
Editable vector annotations. After the capture, an editor opens where arrows, rectangles, circles, lines, and text are inserted as vector objects. Each object can be selected, moved, resized, or deleted without losing quality, even after saving.
Blurring and pixelation of sensitive areas. The tool includes a blur brush and a pixelation (mosaic) brush to hide faces, card numbers, or any private information. The intensity of the effect is adjusted with the mouse wheel.
Gradient backgrounds for social media. The editor can add a gradient color background behind the capture, useful for posts on Twitter, LinkedIn, or Instagram. The canvas size and gradient colors are configurable.
Customizable keyboard shortcuts. All actions (capture region, window, full screen, repeat last capture, upload to Imgur) have assigned key combinations. The user can modify them according to their preference in the configuration file.
Direct upload to Imgur. With a shortcut, you can send the capture to the Imgur service and automatically get the short link in the clipboard, ready to share. The image is saved privately by default.
Export to multiple formats. Images can be saved as PNG, JPEG, BMP, or copied directly to the clipboard. The PNG format preserves transparency and the quality of vector annotations.
Window and full-screen capture. In addition to free region, JShot can capture the active window (including borders and title bar) or the entire desktop with a single shortcut. Window mode automatically detects the area of the application under the cursor.
Support for multiple monitors. Region capture works seamlessly in multi-monitor setups, even with different resolutions and scaling. The precision magnifier adapts to the DPI of each screen.
Screenshot history. Recent images are temporarily stored so they can be retrieved or re-edited without having to recapture. The history is cleared when closing the application.
Eyedropper tool for colors. During region selection, an eyedropper allows you to get the hexadecimal color code of any pixel on the screen, useful for designers or layout creators.
Pixel ruler (dimensions). While dragging the capture area, the width and height in pixels are shown in real time, as well as the relative position from the screen origin.

JShot was created by an independent developer known under the pseudonym "n00b" (or "n00b" in specialized forums). The project began in 2022 as a modern alternative to classic tools like Greenshot or Lightshot, focused on speed and low resource consumption. The program is written entirely in Rust, which explains its small size (10 MB) and memory efficiency. Since its initial release, it has received periodic updates that have added the vector editor, gradient backgrounds, and native support for monitors with different scaling.
