Region capture. Select a specific area of the screen to capture it with pixel precision. You can adjust the edges of the selection before taking the shot, and the image is automatically saved to the library.
Full-screen capture. Take a screenshot of the entire desktop with a single click or a keyboard shortcut. Ideal for documenting the overall system state or saving currently visible information.
Active window capture. Take a picture of the window you are using without having to manually select the area. The feature automatically detects the window's edges and captures only its content.
Built-in editor with ten tools. Annotate your screenshots with arrows, rectangles, circles, text, freehand drawing, and a highlighter. Includes a redaction tool to permanently hide sensitive information.
Screenshot library. All images are saved and organized chronologically in a unified view. You can search files by name, filter them by date, and open them directly in the editor for modifications.

Signed automatic updates. The program checks for new versions and downloads updates cryptographically signed with Ed25519. If the package has been tampered with, the installation is automatically rejected to protect the system.
Portable mode without installation. Download the ZIP version to run Freeshot from a USB drive without needing to install it on your computer. All settings are saved in the same folder.

The development of Freeshot began as a project to create a screenshot tool without the limitations of the application included in Windows. The developers, based in Switzerland, programmed the application in C++ and used the Qt framework for the graphical interface. The first stable version was released in 2023, and since then, the software has received periodic updates based on user suggestions.
