  • Automatic power management. The application constantly monitors the status of the Windows computer and executes preconfigured actions on the connected televisions. When the operating system shuts down, restarts, or enters sleep mode, the software sends shutdown commands to the LG devices. During system startup or resumption from low-power states, the televisions receive power-on signals in a synchronized manner.
  • Response to multi-monitor setup. In environments with multiple screens, the software detects changes in the Windows monitor topology. When connecting or disconnecting displays, the application automatically adjusts the power state of the LG televisions according to the defined configuration, maintaining consistency in the visual setup.
  • User inactivity control. The system incorporates an independent timer that monitors user activity. After a configurable period without computer interaction, the application sends shutdown commands to the connected televisions. This function operates independently of the operating system's power mechanisms.
  • Command line interface. Includes a terminal tool capable of executing numerous operations on WebOS devices. It allows modifying television settings, controlling power states, and retrieving device information through specific command syntax.
  • API for external integration. Provides an application programming interface that external scripts and programs can use to interact with LG televisions. This feature facilitates the creation of custom workflows and advanced automations beyond the base functionalities.
  • Multiple device configuration. Supports the simultaneous management of several LG televisions on the same local network. Each device maintains independent configuration for automatic management, network addresses, and connection parameters, allowing granular control per unit.
  • Automatic device discovery. Incorporates a network scanning mechanism that identifies LG WebOS televisions connected to the local network. The process automatically detects IP addresses, MAC addresses, and device models, simplifying the initial configuration process.
  • Multiple Wake-on-LAN methods. Implements different remote power-on strategies using the Wake-on-LAN protocol. Includes options to send magic packets to broadcast addresses, specific IP addresses, or use alternative transmission techniques for compatibility with different network configurations.
  • Background Windows service. Operates through a system service that runs continuously regardless of the active user session. This service maintains responsiveness to system power events and executes configured actions without requiring an open graphical interface.
  • Per-device pairing configuration. Establishes individual authenticated connections with each television using the LG WebOS pairing protocol. Each device requires manual acceptance of a pairing request during initial setup, ensuring communication security.
  • Multi-language dictionary handling. Includes a system for detecting system shutdown and restart events in different languages by analyzing Windows event logs. Allows extension through contributions to support locales not initially included.
  • Integrated activity logging. Generates detailed logs of operations, network connections, and device responses. The logging system provides information for diagnosing connectivity, configuration, or compatibility issues with specific television models.

The development of LGTV Companion began in 2021 to address limitations in power management when using OLED televisions as PC monitors. JPersson77 created the project as a solution to pixel wear issues on OLED screens. The application is developed primarily in C# and works exclusively on the Windows platform, evolving through continuous updates that expand compatibility with LG WebOS models.
