  • Multi-track playback. Mixxx lets you load and play two or more audio tracks at the same time. Each deck has independent controls for volume, pitch, and tempo. Playback is stable and accurate, with support for formats such as MP3, FLAC, OGG, and WAV.
  • BPM sync. The software automatically detects the tempo of each track and can sync them to prevent drifting out of time. The analysis algorithms are accurate and allow manual adjustments if needed. Sync is maintained even when the tempo changes dynamically.
  • Real-time effects. Includes a variety of effects such as delay, flanger, reverb, and filters. Each effect can be applied to individual decks or to the master output. Parameters are adjusted in real time using MIDI controls or the graphical interface.
  • MIDI controller support. Mixxx is compatible with a wide range of MIDI DJ controllers. Mappings can be customized to the user's preferences. The configuration is saved and loaded for future sessions.
  • Session recording. The recording feature lets you capture mixes in WAV or MP3 format. Recording quality is adjustable, with options to set the bitrate and sample rate. Recorded sessions can be exported for distribution.
  • Vinyl mode. Emulates the behavior of vinyl turntables, including scratching and pitch bending. The response is configurable to suit different mixing styles. It works with specialized controllers or the computer keyboard.
  • Music library. Organizes tracks in a database with search and filtering options. Metadata such as artist, album, and genre can be edited. The library updates automatically when new files are added.
  • Track preview. Lets you listen to tracks in your headphones before playing them on the main output. The preview volume can be adjusted independently of the master. Essential for preparing transitions.
  • Looping and cue points. Loops can be set at specific points in a track. Cue points let you mark sections for quick access. Both features can be controlled with keyboard shortcuts or MIDI controls.
  • Musical key analysis. Detects and displays the key of each track, with support for notations such as Camelot. Makes harmonic mixing between compatible songs easier. The information is saved in the file metadata.

Mixxx was created in 2001 by Ken Haste Andersen and other developers. The project started as an open-source alternative to commercial solutions. It is written mainly in C++, with a QML-based interface in newer versions. A community of contributors maintains regular updates with new features and bug fixes.
