This consistency facilitates the transition between different computers without needing to relearn the interface.
• Background operation with quick access. When minimizing the window, the application resides in the system tray. From this space, the user can pause, resume, or adjust the master volume without restoring the main window, optimizing interaction while working with other applications.
• Native Wayland support. In Linux environments, the application offers compatibility with the Wayland protocol, ensuring its correct operation on the most modern distributions that have adopted this standard for window and peripheral management.
• Manual compilation for other architectures. Being an open-source project, the source code can be compiled by the user for operating systems not covered in the official binaries, such as BSD distributions or specific processor architectures.
• Privacy model with no data collection. The application does not implement analytics, telemetry, or user activity tracking systems. It requires no registration, shows no advertising, and works completely offline after installation.
• No mandatory connectivity. All sound files are stored locally during the program installation. This ensures that the full functionality is available without depending on external servers or an active internet connection.

The development of Opal was started by the CodeDead team, a collective of developers based in Belgium, in 2018. The application is primarily written in the C++ programming language using the Qt framework for the graphical interface. Since its initial release, the project has received contributions from the open-source community through its GitHub repository, where bug fixes and the implementation of new features proposed by users are managed.
