  • Connection navigation and management. QueueExplorer allows you to connect to and manage multiple messaging servers simultaneously from a single interface. It supports connections to MSMQ, Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ and ActiveMQ, organizing them in a tree view for easy access to queues, topics, and subscriptions. You can maintain multiple open connections in separate tabs.
  • Individual and batch message operations. The tool lets you select and operate on one or thousands of messages at once. Operations include copying, moving, deleting, retrying, and editing. It overcomes the 1000-message display limit of the MSMQ console, showing the complete content of queues of any size.
  • Advanced message body viewing and editing. It provides specialized viewers for different formats: plain text with various encodings, XML, JSON, serialized .NET objects (with automatic deserialization), WCF messages, and hexadecimal. You can directly modify message content and properties before forwarding them.
  • Performance and stress testing. It includes a message generator for load testing. You can create and send thousands of messages to a queue with customizable content, configurable send rates, and different patterns, allowing you to evaluate the behavior of consumer applications under load.
  • Advanced filtering, searching, and sorting. Messages in the list can be filtered using complex criteria based on properties, labels, or body content. The Professional edition adds extraction of business fields using XPath (for XML), JSON Path, or regular expressions, allowing you to view and sort by this extracted data.
  • Message backup and restoration. It allows you to save selected messages or entire queues to local files in XML or binary format. These files can later be loaded back into the same or a different queue, facilitating the creation of test data sets or message migration between environments.
  • Troubleshooting problematic messages and poison messages. It simplifies the identification and management of failed messages that accumulate in dead-letter queues. You can inspect their content, correct errors, and forward them to the destination queue or a repair queue for reprocessing.
  • Schema (metadata) operations. Professional Edition. Allows copying, exporting, comparing, and synchronizing object definitions (queues, topics, exchanges) between servers. It is useful for migrating configurations from development to production, duplicating queues with all their parameters on the same server, or backing up the structure before changes.
  • Real-time monitoring and auto-refresh. The queue view can be updated automatically at configurable intervals, showing queue growth, the arrival of new messages, or changes in their status. It provides an overview of the messaging system's health.
  • Multi-system support without additional licenses. A single QueueExplorer installation and license includes support for all compatible messaging systems: MSMQ, Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ, and ActiveMQ. There is no need to purchase separate products to manage different brokers.
  • Interface modes and customization. The application supports light and dark modes, full HiDPI scaling with vector icons and customizable text size. The layout of panels and columns can be adjusted to fit different workflows and user preferences.
  • Property and header management. It allows viewing and editing of all system properties of each message (such as ID, labels, priority, send times) as well as custom user properties. This is essential for diagnosing and precisely manipulating messages in transit.

QueueExplorer was developed by Cogin, a company specializing in tools for developers and system administrators. Development of the program began around 2006, initially focused on providing a more powerful alternative to the native Microsoft Message Queue (MSMQ) management console. The program is primarily written in C# for the .NET Framework platform, allowing deep integration with Microsoft technologies and native performance on Windows. Over the years, it has evolved to add support for other enterprise messaging systems such as Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ, and ActiveMQ, establishing itself as a multi-platform messaging tool.
