  • Non-destructive editing. All changes applied to audio tracks can be reverted without affecting the original files. Includes tools for cutting, time adjustment and region manipulation.
  • Advanced MIDI support. The built-in MIDI sequencer lets you edit notes, control virtual instruments and automate parameters. Compatible with protocols such as VSTi and ReWire.
  • Parameter automation. Changes to volume, panning, effects and other settings can be programmed using automation curves or points. They are saved together with the project.
  • Flexible mixing. Includes send buses, subgroups and parallel processing capabilities. Tracks support unlimited effect chains and custom routing.
  • Plugin compatibility. Works with VST, VST3, AU and JSFX. Plugins can be analyzed to detect performance issues and organized into categories.
  • Rendering and export. Converts projects to formats such as WAV, MP3, FLAC and OGG. Lets you define time ranges, bit depth and normalization settings.
  • Interface customization. Window layouts, keyboard shortcuts and visual themes can be modified to suit your preferences. Floating panels can be docked or detached as needed.
  • Scripting and macros. Repetitive actions are automated with EEL or Lua scripts. Macros combine multiple operations into a single command.
  • Multitrack support. Handles projects with hundreds of tracks without restrictions. Resource management is optimized for systems with limited hardware.

Reaper was created in 2005 by Justin Frankel, founder of Cockos. Development began as a project to improve the audio editing capabilities of software. It is written in C and C++, with critical components optimized in assembly. The first public version appeared in December 2005. Cockos maintains frequent updates with fixes and new features. After the evaluation period, a paid license is required for continued use.
