  • Delay measurement. The main function of Sub Align is to calculate the delay between subwoofer signals. It uses cross-correlation to accurately determine the time difference between channels, which is essential for correctly aligning multi-channel systems.
  • Phase analysis. Shows the phase relationship between signals in the low-frequency domain. This helps identify cancellations or reinforcements caused by phase misalignments between subwoofers.
  • Built-in tone generator. Includes generation of specific test signals for subwoofers, such as sine tones in the 20Hz to 200Hz range, optimized for low-frequency system measurements.
  • Waveform visualization. Graphical representation of captured signals, allowing you to see the time relationship between different subwoofer sources and their alignment.
  • Acoustic distance measurement. Calculates the distance between speakers based on the measured delay, using the speed of sound as a reference for time-to-distance conversion.
  • Polarity correction. Detects polarity inversions in subwoofer signals, clearly showing when transducers are working in phase opposition.
  • Frequency range filters. Application of band-pass filters to specifically isolate subwoofer frequencies, removing interference from other frequency bands in measurements.
  • Data export. Ability to save measurement results in formats compatible with other acoustic processing and analysis systems.
  • Microphone calibration. Tools to compensate for the response characteristics of the microphone used, ensuring accurate measurements in the subwoofer range.
  • Multiple reference mode. Allows setting one channel as a reference and simultaneously comparing multiple sources against this reference, speeding up the alignment process in complex systems.
  • Measurement history. Stores previous settings and results for quick comparison between different system adjustments or configurations.
  • Temperature compensation. Automatically adjusts delay calculations based on the entered ambient temperature, since the speed of sound varies with this parameter.

Sub Align was developed as part of the Open Sound Meter project, initiated in 2018 by a team of audio engineers specializing in acoustic measurement. The program is written in C++ with signal processing components in assembly language to optimize real-time performance. The first version of Sub Align was released in 2020 as a specialized tool to complement Open Sound Meter's analysis capabilities in the low-frequency range.
