  • Real-time synchronization. Syncthing detects changes in files and syncs them immediately with connected devices. No manual intervention is required, as everything is updated automatically whenever modifications occur.
  • Encrypted transfers. All transferred data is encrypted with TLS. No one outside the authorized devices can access the synchronized information.
  • No external servers. Communication takes place directly between devices, eliminating dependence on cloud services. This improves privacy and reduces costs.
  • Cross-platform. Works on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and other operating systems. Lets you sync files between different types of devices without problems.
  • Version control. Keeps previous versions of modified or deleted files. You can recover lost data or revert unwanted changes.
  • Selective folder sync. Choose which folders to synchronize on each device. There is no need to share all content, only what you need on each machine.
  • Efficient bandwidth usage. Transfers only the modified parts of files, reducing data consumption. Ideal for slow or metered connections.
  • Built-in web interface. It is configured and monitored from a browser. No additional software needs to be installed for administration.
  • LAN support. Detects devices on the same local network and syncs without using the internet. Speeds up transfers and saves external bandwidth.
  • File ignoring. Define patterns to exclude certain files or file types from synchronization. Useful for avoiding temporary or unnecessary data.
  • Notifications. Alerts about important events, such as synchronization errors or newly connected devices. Keeps you informed about the state of the system.
  • REST API. Allows Syncthing to be integrated with other applications through a programmable interface. Simplifies automation and the development of custom tools.

Syncthing was created in 2013 by Jakob Borg. The project emerged as a decentralized alternative to server-based synchronization solutions. It is written in the Go programming language, which contributes to its portability and performance. Since its release, it has been developed by an active community, with regular updates that add features and improve stability.

Changelog

Version: 2.1.6
  1. Devices and folders can be grouped in the GUI by using the new group attribute.
  2. HTTP and HTTPS proxies with CONNECT support are now supported on top of the existing SOCKS proxy support (via the all_proxy=https://... environment variable).
  3. Block indexing can be disabled for folders where a smaller database and lower overhead matter more than keeping transfer size to a minimum (blockIndexing attribute in the folder configuration).
  4. The GUI login session length is configurable: it can be shorter or longer than the default one week, or unlimited, and the cookie path can be changed too (sessionCookieDurationS and sessionCookiePath attributes in the GUI configuration).
  5. Introducers can no longer add themselves to folders.
  6. Accessible labels are added to the buttons in the Edit Device modal.
  7. A proper error is reported when a temporary file cannot be created.
  8. Keepalive is disabled on most outgoing HTTP connections, and a global short-lived HTTP client with correct HTTP/2 support is used.
  9. On detached Windows consoles, the monitor keeps writing logs even when stdout is unavailable.
  10. Color contrast of the GUI header and buttons is improved.
  11. An unnecessary delay in index transmission is removed.
  12. watchaggregator now converts floating-point time durations correctly.
  13. Also available through the APT repository (https://apt.syncthing.net/) and as a Docker image at docker.io/syncthing/syncthing:2.1.6 or ghcr.io/syncthing/syncthing:2.1.6 (use the :2 tag to follow only the major version).
