Unyo was inspired by Dantotsu and began its development in 2022. The main creator is K3vinb5. The application is built with modern web technologies using Electron for the interface layer and Node.js for the backend. The project experienced a period of reduced development during 2023, but is currently in a reactivation phase. Work is being done on a codebase rewrite to improve performance and facilitate maintenance. The extension system uses an adaptation of the Aniyomi codebase, originally designed for Android, modified to work in desktop environments. Remote extensions are served through a custom API, while local ones require Java 17 or higher to run.
