  • Universal format support. Vidi plays video files in formats like MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV, WebM, FLV, and WMV. No prior conversion of files is required for playback.
  • Hardware acceleration. The player uses the system's hardware decoding, optimized for Apple Silicon processors (M1, M2, M3, M4). This technology enables smooth playback of 4K and 8K HDR content with efficient Mac battery consumption.
  • Advanced Picture-in-Picture. The Picture-in-Picture function displays the video in a floating window above other applications. This window includes full playback controls, subtitle support, and the ability to seek through the timeline.
  • Online subtitle search. From within the player, you can search for and download subtitles directly from the OpenSubtitles database. Supported formats include SRT, VTT, ASS, and SSA.
  • Spatial audio and cinema mode. Vidi processes audio to create a three-dimensional surround sound experience with any pair of headphones. Cinema Mode automatically enhances bass and presence to emulate the acoustics of a movie theater.
  • Streaming to devices. This function allows sending video to external screens using Chromecast, AirPlay, and DLNA protocols. Playback control, such as volume or seeking, is maintained from the Mac application.
  • Dynamic sound and voice enhancement. The player analyzes audio in real-time and adjusts levels to balance action scenes and dialogue. The voice enhancement feature has multiple levels to improve the clarity of conversations.
  • Ambient mode. This function generates an ambient light effect around the player window. The color of this light dynamically adapts to the predominant tones of the video being played.
  • 7-band equalizer. Vidi includes a professional graphic equalizer with manual control over seven frequency bands. It also offers pre-configured profiles for different types of content.
  • Volume amplification. The function allows increasing audio gain beyond the standard maximum limit, useful for videos with low soundtracks. The processing aims to minimize distortion during this increase.
  • Intro and outro skipping. The player can automatically detect and skip the opening and ending credits of series or movies. It uses chapter metadata embedded in the file for this function.
  • Seek preview with thumbnails. Hovering the cursor over the progress bar displays video thumbnails at the corresponding time point. This allows visually locating a specific scene before releasing the cursor.
  • Smart playback. Vidi remembers the exact position where playback of each file was stopped. Upon reopening the video, you can continue from that point without needing to mark it manually.
  • Automatic playlist. When opening a video located in a folder, the player detects other video files in that directory and adds them to a continuous playback queue.
  • Playback history. The application maintains a log of recently watched videos. This log shows thumbnails and progress indicators for quick access to that content.
  • Smart file name display. Vidi analyzes video file names to identify and neatly display information such as episode number, title, and release year, instead of the raw file name.
  • Gesture control and keyboard shortcuts. The player responds to trackpad gestures for controlling volume or seeking. It also offers configurable keyboard shortcuts for each of its main functions.
  • Sleep timer. The user can schedule an automatic pause of playback after a pre-defined time interval, such as 5, 15, 30, or 60 minutes.
  • Playback speed control. This function allows adjusting the playback speed from 0.25x up to 2x the original speed. It includes pitch correction to maintain audio quality at different speeds.

The development of Vidi was started and completed in the year 2025. The software is created by an independent development team focused on native macOS applications. The application is written in Swift, the primary programming language for the Apple ecosystem, ensuring optimal integration with the operating system. The first public version, 1.0, corresponds to the year of its creation.
