  • 100% local processing. The speech recognition engine works completely offline. Audio data and transcribed text are processed and stored exclusively on the user's device. No internet connection is required for the basic operation of the software.
  • Push-to-talk control. Dictation activation by pressing and holding the F2 key. The audio capture system is active only while the designated key is held down, providing precise control over the start and end of dictation.
  • Real-time dictation. Immediate insertion of transcribed text into the active input field of the operating system. The technology ensures minimal latency between the spoken word and the appearance of the text in the target application.
  • Automatic audio ducking. Programmatic reduction of the volume of other audio playback applications during microphone activation. The system automatically restores original volume levels when dictation ends.
  • Customizable vocabulary. Ability to add technical terms, proper nouns, and specific vocabulary to the local recognition engine. Custom vocabulary data is stored encrypted in the device's local storage.
  • Configurable voice commands. Define custom spoken phrases for inserting punctuation and text formatting. Each command is processed locally and associated with specific text actions defined by the user.
  • Visual status indicator. A graphical overlay interface showing the current audio capture status. The indicator provides immediate visual confirmation when the software is processing voice input.
  • Application integration. Compatibility with most development environments, word processors, email clients, and communication applications. Text is inserted via system-level keyboard event emulation.
  • System tray interface. A quick-access icon located in the Windows notification area. The main interface remains minimized until activated via keyboard shortcuts.
  • Local data storage. All language models, user preferences, and configuration data reside exclusively in local storage. No data is transmitted to external servers at any stage of operation.
  • Advanced command mode. A system of voice macros for executing complex formatting and editing sequences. It allows for the definition of repetitive text structures using short spoken phrases.
  • Microphone calibration. Built-in tools for optimizing audio input settings. Automatically adjusts gain levels and applies noise filters to improve recognition accuracy.

Development of Vocaly began in 2023 as a project to address privacy needs in voice dictation software. The creators prioritized local processing architecture from the initial design phase. The application is built using C++ for low-level components and Python for the natural language processing engine. The first public version was released in 2025 for the Windows platform, with active development of a macOS version scheduled for a later release.
