  • Installing open-source drivers. Zadig allows the installation of open-source drivers such as WinUSB, libusb-win32, or libusbK. These drivers are necessary to communicate with USB devices that lack official support on Windows.
  • Support for multiple devices. The tool automatically detects connected USB devices and displays a list of available ones. This includes interfaces such as CDC, HID, or devices in DFU mode.
  • Replacing existing drivers. If a device already has a driver installed, Zadig can replace it with a compatible version. This is useful when the default driver does not work correctly.
  • Advanced operation mode. It includes options to force installation in cases where the operating system blocks driver changes. This resolves compatibility issues.
  • Minimalist interface. The application shows only essential functions without complex menus. Users select the device and the desired driver in a single window.
  • Support for unrecognized devices. Zadig can install drivers on devices that Windows marks as unknown. This allows recovery of hardware that would otherwise be unusable.
  • Integration with development tools. The installed drivers work with environments such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or prototyping boards. They facilitate communication between the IDE and the device.
  • USB filter configuration. It allows defining rules so that certain drivers apply only to devices with specific IDs. This avoids conflicts with other peripherals.
  • Operation log. It shows technical details during driver installation. This information helps diagnose errors or failures in the process.
  • Portable with no installation required. The program runs directly from an EXE file without requiring a package manager. It can be saved on USB drives for mobile use.
  • Updating existing drivers. It replaces outdated or corrupted USB drivers while maintaining the device's previous configuration.

Zadig was created by Pete Batard and developed as part of the AKeO project. The first stable version was released in 2012. The program is written in C and uses libraries such as libusb to interact with the hardware. Its development continues with periodic updates to add support for new devices.
