  • Moving windows with Alt + left click. Lets you drag any window by holding down the Alt key and the left mouse button. There is no need to click on the title bar, and it works even on borderless windows.
  • Resizing with Alt + right click. Activates window resizing without having to locate the border. While holding Alt and the right mouse button, you can adjust the dimensions from any point of the window.
  • Snapping to screen edges. When a window is moved near the edge of the screen, it is aligned automatically. Supports custom settings for snapping distances.
  • Transparency with Alt + mouse wheel. Changes the opacity of the window under the cursor by scrolling the mouse wheel while holding the configured modifier key. Useful for seeing content behind the current window.
  • Maximize or minimize actions. Optional settings let you maximize, minimize, or close windows using configurable mouse actions, such as a double click on the title bar.
  • Multiple monitor support. Manages windows in setups with several displays. Lets you move windows between monitors with customizable shortcuts.
  • Always-on-top mode. Pins a window above all others until it is manually disabled. Keeps the window in the foreground regardless of focus.
  • Configurable keyboard shortcuts. All main functions have editable key combinations. Different actions can be assigned according to the user's preferences.
  • Application exclusion. Blacklist and whitelist options to define which programs to ignore. Prevents accidental activation in software that should not be modified.
  • Custom per-window rules. Sets different behaviors depending on the window title or class. Applies default transparency, position, or size.
  • Command-line interface. Advanced control through CLI parameters. Allows integration with scripts or external launchers.

AltSnap was originally created by Stefan Sundin as AltDrag. The first version of AltDrag appeared in 2009, with regular updates until 2018. Later, RamonUnch continued development under the name AltSnap after the original project became inactive. The program is written in C++ and uses Windows system hooks to intercept input events. AltSnap maintains compatibility with modern versions of Windows while adding new features. The source code is available under the GPL license on GitHub.
