  • Automatic time tracking. ManicTime passively records all activity performed on the computer. It captures active windows, application titles, and open documents, storing data with no manual interaction required.
  • Application and document logging. The tool identifies which programs are running and how long they stay in use. It also detects files open in applications such as Word, Excel, or web browsers.
  • Time classification with tags. Lets you categorize activity periods using customizable tags. Users can assign names such as "Meeting," "Development," or "Analysis" to organize their records.
  • Visual timeline. Displays a graphical representation of daily activities. Each time segment is colored according to the selected application or category.
  • Statistics and reports. Generates metrics on time usage, including hours spent on specific projects, most-used applications, and activity distribution.
  • Server synchronization. Option to store data on a local or remote server, enabling multi-device access and data backup.
  • Offline mode. Continues recording activity without an internet connection. Data is synchronized once the connection is restored.
  • Advanced filters. Tools for selecting specific periods, applications, or categories. They make detailed analysis of time intervals easier.
  • Calendar integration. Imports events from calendar applications to compare scheduled meetings with the actual time spent.
  • Developer API. A programming interface that lets you extract raw data or integrate ManicTime with other management solutions.
  • Privacy protection. All data is stored locally by default. Personal information is never transmitted without explicit configuration.
  • Data export. Options to save reports as CSV, HTML, or images. Compatible with external analysis tools.

The project began in 2007 as a way to improve visibility into the time spent on digital tasks. The first stable version was released in 2009. The software is written in C# using the .NET framework, which allows native integration with Windows systems. The founders, Boštjan Špetič and Marko Špetič, focused development on metric accuracy and data privacy. The tool has evolved with advanced analysis features while keeping passive tracking at its core.
