  • Task automation. Regolith runs repetitive processes such as texture compression, format conversion, and manifest file generation through configurable scripts.
  • Version control integration. The tool keeps source files separate from the com.mojang folder, allowing efficient use of systems like Git to track changes.
  • Asset processing. Transforms and optimizes graphic resources through configurable pipelines, supporting formats such as PNG, JPEG, and JSON models.
  • Manifest generation. Automatically creates the manifest.json files required for Resource Packs and Behavior Packs, validating their structure.
  • Multi-tool support. Combines various command-line utilities into a unified workflow, independent of any specific programming language.
  • Change monitoring. Detects modifications in source files and runs the corresponding processes without manual intervention.
  • Configurable environments. Lets you define different build profiles for development, testing, and production.
  • Code minification. Reduces the size of JSON files and scripts by removing unnecessary whitespace and comments.
  • Syntax validation. Checks the correctness of JSON files and other formats before final packaging.
  • Automated deployment. Copies the finished packs to the appropriate Minecraft Bedrock Edition directories.

Regolith's development began as a solution to the challenges of managing packs for Minecraft Bedrock. Originally created in Go, the project has evolved to address the specific needs of content developers. The main maintainers belong to the Bedrock-OSS organization, which focuses on tools for creating mods and resources.

Changelog

Version: 1.8.0
  1. This update focuses mostly on Regolith performance, and the performance tips are available in the official documentation.
  2. New tmp_dir user configuration setting, which can be combined with RAM drives to speed up filter execution.
  3. New Bun filter type.
  4. You can now specify the runner executable used by certain filter types.
  5. The Node runner can be replaced with Deno or Bun, two runtimes that claim to be faster than Node.js.
  6. General performance improvements and a new --unsafe flag that removes the safety check for file deletion; syncing directories is now done in parallel as well.
  7. Each profile supports multiple export targets.
  8. The size-time-check and symlink-export features are no longer experimental, and size-time-check is now the default execution mode.
  9. The regolith init command now uses the unified $schema instead of a version-specific one.
